We’ll be at the Taste of Old North Dayton tonight. It runs from 5:30 - 8:00 PM in Stuart Patterson Park. Stop by our table and say hi. Hopefully, the rain will hold off.

Happy Juneteenth!

˝Juneteenth is a holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States.

It recalls how the states of Louisiana and Texas heard the news that President Abraham Lincoln had signed the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863.

Slavery continued in those two states for more than two years after the proclamation was signed beaus the word had yet to travel there.

Texas and Louisiana finally got the good news on June 19, 1865. Former slaves broke out in spontaneous celebration. These were dangerous times.

Even in the face of resistance and threat, the formerly enslaved Africans found ways to give voice to the wide range of thoughts and emotions at the announcement of the end of legalized slavery in the United States of America."

Join us for good conversation, a story about Jesus, and some prayer for each other and our community. The gathering is casual and friendly, and the food is free. We respect that people are at different places on their faith journeys—from skeptical to devout to wavering. That’s ok. We welcome everyone, and questions are fine.

Normally, we ask how we can pray for you on Sunday evenings. Tonight, we ask you to pray with us for those impacted by the tornadoes in Ohio and Indiana this week. May God give them peace and strength. if you are able to help, there are lots of relief organizations that are accepting donations to help those who were hit. We pray that many of us are inspired to pitch in to help.

The address is 511 Hart St. in Old North Dayton; the entrance on the Grove Ave. side of the building will be open to greet you.
