🙏 Pastor David Sanders led a Celebration of Life service for Barry Whipple, honoring him as a beloved husband, father, brother, friend, and faithful follower of Christ. Barry was remembered as someone who lived out his faith.

Friends and family shared memories of Barry’s kindness, humor, cooking, baking, crafting, generosity, and involvement at Bethel. He was active in Bible study, discipleship group, grief group, Bethel Blue, and Wednesday night suppers. He was known for bringing cookies, sharing recipes, helping others, and making everyone feel welcome.

Barry’s stepson, Waylon, spoke warmly and lovingly of Barry as a devoted husband, father, teacher, servant, and community-minded man. He reflected on Barry’s deep love for his wife, Robbie, and the joy they shared throughout their life together. Waylon shared the verse:
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” — Matthew 5:8
He remarked that this Scripture beautifully reminded him of both Barry and Robbie and their pure hearts, reflecting the faith, kindness, and sincerity that characterized their lives.

Pastor David preached from 2 Corinthians 4:6–18, reminding everyone that although our bodies are fragile “clay jars,” believers carry the treasure of Christ within them. He acknowledged the grief of losing Barry, but emphasized the hope of resurrection and eternal life. Barry’s earthly body had grown weak, but his faith, love, and witness remained strong.

The service included “Amazing Grace,” “Faithfully,” and “Go Rest High on That Mountain.” Pastor David closed in prayer, asking God to comfort Barry’s family and friends and reminding those gathered that Barry is now whole and at peace in the presence of Christ.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Matthew 5:4

✨Congratulations to Mary Wallingford and Candy Nonnemacher on receiving their Lay Empowerment Institute (LEI) Certificate and Pin at the North Georgia Annual Conference!

The Lay Empowerment Institute is a year-long program designed to equip and inspire lay leaders to serve alongside clergy in strengthening the local church. Participants complete extensive training in GMC history, polity, theology, doctrine, church leadership, administration, missions, and conference structure.

Please join us in celebrating this wonderful accomplishment and thanking them for their faithful leadership at Bethel Methodist Church! 💙

We are pleased to share that our own pastor, Rev. Dr. David Sanders, has been prayerfully appointed by the bishop to serve as Connectional Community Elder (District Leader) for District 20 of the North Georgia Conference of the Global Methodist Church.

In this role, David will serve as a spiritual shepherd, mentor, and encourager to the pastors and churches throughout our district. He will help strengthen church health, support discipleship and mission, provide guidance during challenges, and serve as a vital connection between local churches and the conference.

While continuing to faithfully serve Bethel Methodist Church, David will also be investing in and supporting congregations across District 20 through this important leadership role.

We are grateful for David’s faithful ministry and leadership, and we congratulate him on this appointment. Please join us in praying for him as he serves both Bethel and the churches of District 20.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” Colossians 3:23

🌿🦋 What a wonderful final session of Bethel Blue’s winter schedule!

We enjoyed a tutorial by Melissa Pfiel on creating butterfly gardens, complete with plants to take home to get started! Debbie Revetti taught us how to create container gardens including types of plants to select and consideration of artistic composition. Lastly, we made beautiful gratitude journals led by Karen Bitler, as we reflected on God’s many blessings. As always, it was a wonderful time of fellowship, creativity, and encouragement together.

Meanwhile, in the Gathering Room, Cindy Burks and the Prayer Shawl Ministry team stayed busy knitting shawls that will bring comfort, warmth, and love to many in our community. 🙏

The season ended with a fun “Show & Tell” as many of the lovely projects created throughout the session were on display for our church family to enjoy.

A huge thank you to the Bethel Blue team for all the planning, creativity, variety, and care that made this season so special. We’re grateful for everyone who participated and look forward to the exciting things being planned for the future!

Today, as we celebrate Pentecost in the life of the Church, may we remember that the same Holy Spirit who empowered the ordinary people of the early Church is still alive and at work among us today.

Today is also Aldersgate Day, a reminder that hearts are still being strangely warmed by the grace and presence of God.

May the Holy Spirit continue to move in our hearts, renewing us with passion, courage, and compassion to share the hope of Christ as we seek to reach every nation, tribe, and people group.

🌿☀️The Young at Heart group enjoyed a wonderful outing yesterday, May 14, to Hardman Farm State Historic Site and the Sautee Nacoochee Cultural Center & Folk Pottery Museum. Everyone learned so much about the rich history of the area, and the guide was both knowledgeable and entertaining! Everyone had a great time, and the weather could not have been more perfect. ☀️🌿
