⭐️ Have you entered our raffle yet? ⭐️

You can win a quilt hand-sewn by our students, or one of two abolitionist book bundles!

See the original post for details, and enter by 11:59pm TOMORROW, June 22.

Abolitionist Quilters' Raffle!

Drawing on the lineage of 19th-century abolitionist quilters, students at The Belfry spent the 2020-2021 academic year learning to quilt and to imagine a world without incarceration, surveillance, and the Prison Industrial Complex.

Enter to win the quilt or one of two abolitionist gift bundles, courtesy of Avid Reader! Three winners will be announced on June 23.

**To enter, send proof of a donation (in any amount) to Critical Resistance Oakland to [email protected] by 11:59pm on June 22.**

A word from our peer minister, Kelly, the leader of this effort: "I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this quilt - from donating and loaning supplies, to sharing knowledge, and to all those who were a part of the group. A whole community, all across the country, contributed to its creation, and was able to be involved in abolition work in ways big and small. We hope the quilt will keep its recipient warm, and that it will stir up conversations and convictions that contribute to change toward more just responses to harm.”

The full dimensions of the quilt are 64" x 42".

Each abolitionist bundle contains a paperback copy of either "Are Prisons Obsolete?" by Angela Y. Davis or "The End of Policing" by Alex S. Vitale, as well as a $20 gift card to Avid Reader, which can be used online from anywhere in the US.

Visit https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/criticalresistance and select "Oakland" from the drop-down menu at the bottom of the page. When you email us, please rank the prizes (quilt, Angela Davis book, Alex Vitale book) in order of your preference!

Congratulations to our graduates 🎓 Joe, Kelly, and Kate! 💙💛 We celebrated their undergraduate achievement and growth as people of faith at last night’s closing liturgy. We also said farewell and Godspeed to Pastor Casey, whose six years of service as our pastor come to an end this summer. Of course there was a rainbow 🌈 Costco cake to celebrate!

God is making all things new! We hope you have a restful, fun, and safe summer. See you in the fall in our little yellow house! 🏡

Check out this article in about the importance of campus ministry for student mental health from this month's Living Lutheran.

Even though Mental Health Awareness Month is coming to a close, it is always important to make sure you are caring for your whole being. There are on-campus resources available through UC Davis Mental Health Initiative, UC Davis Student Health & Counseling Services, UC Davis Student Mental Health Coalition, and more! Please reach out if we can help you access the care you need.

Lutheran Campus Ministries provide space for college students to engage in fellowship practice faith and foster their mental health.

At our third group meeting this week, we reflected on the spiritual and theological significance of water, and the imperative to keep our waterways clean and safe:

💧what is the closest body of water to your church?

💧 what is the biggest source of water pollution in your area?

💧what is the role of the church in protecting the waters of Creation in which we baptize?

These questions are from , the book we’re reading with our friends at CA House during the season of Lent. You can zoom with us next Monday, or join the conversation here in the comments!

At our second group meeting this week, we reflected on how the climate crisis affects us here in California’s agricultural center, where wildfires rage and farmworkers find no respite:

🔥 how is climate disruption affecting your region?

🔥 where are the communities that will be hit hardest by the effects of the climate crisis?

🔥 how can your church minister to those most affected by environmental issues?

These questions are from , the book we’re reading with our friends at CA House during the season of Lent. You can zoom with us next Monday, or join the conversation here in the comments!
