In remembrance of the life of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Church of God General Overseer Dr. Timothy M. Hill, issues the following statement:
“In the turbulent 1960s, Dr. King challenged our country to dream with him of a nation where freedom and equality replaced slavery and hatred. He encouraged our nation to make our future brighter than our past. In words that still ring true today, Dr. King noted that if that was going to happen, it was going to take all of us coming together to fight the ills of our nation. In referencing Psalms 30:5, Dr. King pointed out that while ‘weeping may endure for a night, joy was coming in the morning.’
Dr. King’s challenging words continue to push for equality and justice for all. It has been said that the most segregated hour of the week is worship time on Sunday morning. That should not be. The Church of God’s focus on the FINISH Commitment in completing the Great Commission is about making disciples of ALL people and nations, regardless of race, creed, color, or ethnicity. We are, “A Church on Mission.”
As we take time to reflect on the life and words of Dr. King, my prayer is that we will all join together to make sure that every man, woman, and child can hear of the love of Jesus Christ – our Lord and Savior and our soon coming King.
