Sometimes God allows bombs to drop in our lives—not to destroy us, but to create the exact conditions we need to flourish. Just like the endangered St. Francis satyr butterfly that thrives in the bombing ranges of Fort Bragg, we often grow most when life looks like a pockmarked battlefield.

Matthew 2:13-23 shows us Joseph fleeing to Egypt with Mary and baby Jesus, running from Herod's murderous rage. Yet even in the chaos, God was sovereignly fulfilling every Old Testament promise. The same Jesus who fled as a child would one day ride into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday—no longer running from slaughter, but embracing it to crush the serpent's head and save us from God's wrath.

Stop worrying. Start working. Obey in this moment—it's the only one you have. God's plan doesn't hinge on you; it hinges on Jesus, who was faithful when everyone else failed. Trust Him today.

Why does Jesus need both an earthly father and a heavenly Father? Because you have a debt only God can pay, but only a man should pay.

Joseph shows us what faithful obedience looks like—he obeyed right away, all the way, even when it meant facing shame and confusion. He chose compassion over condemnation. But even more, God the Father shows us unfathomable love: He didn't spare His own Son but sent Him to be born, to suffer, and to die so that you could be saved from your sins.

Matthew 1:21 says, "You shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins." Not from the Romans. Not from circumstances. From SIN. That's the miracle of Christmas—God with us, Emmanuel, paying an infinite debt we could never pay.

This morning, will you bow to Jesus, the God-man who alone can save? Give your life to Him in repentance and faith, and He will make you new.
