The Preterist will state that the book of Revelation happened in 70 A.D. In order to do so they are forced to allegorize the entire book (except for the specific verses that say these things will happen quickly of course). Here is an example of the problems this poses.
Revelation 10:11 And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before ππππ πππππππ, πππ πππππππ, πππ πππππππ, πππ πππππ.
The Preterist insist this is only speaking about the nations surrounding Israel and the Roman Empire. But that is not what these words mean. The words are clear. John was to prophesy of these things to ππππ πππππππ, πππ πππππππ, πππ πππππππ, πππ πππππ.. It is noteworthy that when Revelation prophesies against so many specific places. It would be inconsistent to try to apply this language to those same specific places.
This is akin to when Revelation talks about πππ πππππππ. Some examples are:
Revelation 12:5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.
Revelation 13:7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
Revelation 14:8 And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.
Revelation 15:4 Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.
It is abundantly obvious that πππ πππππππ means πππ πππππππ β¦ not just some specific nations. The word πππ in each of these instances meansβ¦ you guessed itβ¦. πππ. The context makes this more clear. Revelation 12:5 is no doubt talking about Jesus as the man child. Does He only rule some nations? No, He rules πππ πππππππ.
This is the problem with Preterism. To make everything fit in the lens through which they view the scriptures, too many things have to be allegorized. And the interpretive methos must be inconsistent. This is true for any false doctrine. Allow the Bible to ring true and to interpret itself. Allow the scriptures to just say what they say.
I am working on putting together an indepth study of the book of Revelation. We will work our way through the entire book, verse by verse. I hope you join us. Watch for the announcement of the start of the series.
Just think about it.
God Bless, and Good Day.
