This Sunday at Living Hope Church, we’re continuing our series through the parables of Jesus with a story about a great supper and an invitation that people surprisingly begin to turn down.

Their excuses aren’t outrageous. They’re ordinary things: property, work, family. But that’s part of what makes this parable so challenging.

Sometimes it isn’t bad things that keep us from what matters most. Sometimes good things simply become more important to us than they should.

And yet, as the story unfolds, we discover something beautiful: there is still room at the Master’s table. Room for the overlooked. Room for the unexpected. Room for people who never imagined they belonged there.

Join us this Sunday at 10:00 AM as we study Luke 14:15–24 and consider the question Jesus ultimately puts before every one of us: You’ve been invited. What will you do with the invitation?

What do you do when someone hurts you not just once, but again and again? This Sunday, we’ll continue our series “Stories That Change Everything” with one of Jesus’ most challenging parables: The Unforgiving Servant from Matthew 18.

Jesus tells the story of a man forgiven an impossible debt who then refuses to extend that same mercy to someone else. It’s a powerful reminder that forgiveness doesn’t mean the hurt wasn’t real, the offense didn’t matter, or trust must immediately be restored.

But when we remember the incredible mercy God has shown us, it changes how we respond to those who have wronged us.

Join us Sunday as we discover why people who have experienced the forgiveness of God should become people who forgive others.

This Sunday, we continue Stories That Change Everything: The Parables of Jesus with a story almost everyone has heard.

We know the priest. We know the Levite. We know the Samaritan. We even use the phrase “Good Samaritan” today to describe someone who helps a stranger.

But there’s a question hidden in the conversation that led Jesus to tell this story in the first place, and it changes the way you hear the entire parable.

Come see us at 50 Westridge Road in Davenport this Sunday at 10:00am.

Church Family Spotlight: Jan Douma

Jan found Living Hope walking through the neighborhood and seeing our signs for church.

He was born in the Netherlands, and his career with Shell took him and his family to several countries around the world. In 2004, work brought them to the United States. Jan splits his time staying in Tulsa, Oklahoma, during the summer and Davenport during the winter.

Jan is currently writing a book about his father's experiences during World War II, including the time his father spent in various N**i concentration camps. An important part of the story is his father's testimony of faith and how that faith endured even in the camps.

Faith continues to be central in Jan's own life as well. He says trusting in the Lord gives him “direction, protection, hope and strength.” That's also part of what he appreciates about Living Hope, including the strong sense of community, the opportunity to really know and care for one another, Bible studies, and most importantly, keeping Scripture at the center of our services.

We're thankful that a simple sign along the road led Jan to become part of our Living Hope family!

One of his favorite verses is Psalm 91:2: “I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”

This past Sunday, we took a few special moments at Living Hope to pray over our students and educators as they begin a new school year. We invited all of our school-aged children to the front, asked every teacher and educator in the room to stand, and then our church family gathered around them, laid hands on them, and prayed together. May God bless you and use you in a special way this school year! ❤️🙏

Why does God allow good and evil to exist side by side? This Sunday, we'll discover that the presence of evil doesn't mean God has lost control, why Jesus tells His followers to wait until the harvest, and what that harvest ultimately represents.

Join us as we continue our series, Stories That Change Everything, and let Jesus Himself explain one of His most fascinating parables. We'd love to have you with us this Sunday at 10:00am, 50 Westridge Road in Davenport.

We recently had one of those evenings where our church family gathered together for dinner and fellowship. We a grateful for the friendships God is building and the encouragement that comes from simply spending time together.

Some of the most famous stories ever told were spoken by Jesus from the shore of the Sea of Galilee. Farmers. Shepherds. Seeds. Sheep. Lost coins. Prodigal sons. At first they sound like simple, everyday stories. But each one reveals a life-changing spiritual truth.

Beginning this Sunday, we'll discover why Jesus taught in parables, what they reveal about God's Kingdom, and why the same message can produce completely different responses in different hearts.

Join us as we begin with The Parable of the Sower from Matthew 13. You may have heard this story before, but it just might change the way you hear God's Word forever.
