Church Family Spotlight: Jan Douma
Jan found Living Hope walking through the neighborhood and seeing our signs for church.
He was born in the Netherlands, and his career with Shell took him and his family to several countries around the world. In 2004, work brought them to the United States. Jan splits his time staying in Tulsa, Oklahoma, during the summer and Davenport during the winter.
Jan is currently writing a book about his father's experiences during World War II, including the time his father spent in various N**i concentration camps. An important part of the story is his father's testimony of faith and how that faith endured even in the camps.
Faith continues to be central in Jan's own life as well. He says trusting in the Lord gives him “direction, protection, hope and strength.” That's also part of what he appreciates about Living Hope, including the strong sense of community, the opportunity to really know and care for one another, Bible studies, and most importantly, keeping Scripture at the center of our services.
We're thankful that a simple sign along the road led Jan to become part of our Living Hope family!
One of his favorite verses is Psalm 91:2: “I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”
