The keys have been found! Rejoice!

08/29/2026

Greetings, friends! It's been a while and I've missed you! I will add more information over time about my return -- which isn't happening quite yet. There is also a bit of info in the church newsletter.

Meanwhile, I do have a request: if anyone is in the church Sunday morning (August 30) and finds a set of keys on a red flower-embroidered lanyard, please bring it over to me! As you can imagine, pretty much everything on there is pretty darned important.

If it's not there, then I'll continue my search here at home. I just know that the church is the last place I went where I had (and used) my keys, and I didn't go anywhere else after that.

I'll be back soon with more information on how things are going for me. Thank you all for your support in the many ways you've given it: cards, notes, calls, texts, thoughts, prayers, flowers, etc., and more. It all means so very much to me. See you soon.

With love and blessings,
Pastor Mary Jo

In addition to the information I gave about our special time of remembrance of Nan Banker this coming Sunday during worship (July 12), I would encourage any of you who are not able to be present Sunday for this time to send me some memories you have of her that you wouldn't mind having me share during that time period. Email anything you have to my email address: [email protected]. We would love to hear what you have to say. Thank you.

Friends, as many of you know, CVPC's beloved former member and Clerk of Session, Nancy Banker, passed away on Friday, July 3, early in the morning. At this point, no services have been planned for any public celebration of life. I am posting a link to her obituary below.

For the sake of all who knew and loved Nan at the church and have appreciated her hard work, we will be having a short memorial time during our regular worship service this coming Sunday, July 12. Worship begins at 10:00 a.m.

It will include scripture, a hymn, a time of sharing of memories, and a prayer. We will also be having communion, so the sermon itself will be short.

David, her husband, does not plan to be there that day. His desire is to come to church to worship as we normally do, so we look forward to the day when he may make the choice to do that.

Let us keep him in our prayers, as well as her family and friends mentioned in the obituary, and we will give thanks to God Sunday and always for the blessing Nan has been to us and to so many people. -- Pastor Mary Jo

Here's a picture of the book we'll be reading in this week's Home Connection Zoom gathering tomorrow (Sunday, July 5 at 8:00 p.m.). I love this book. Though these are supposed to be "Bedtime Stories" and are oriented toward children, they are valuable for people at any age! If you want to attend, please send a personal message to this page with your email address or cell phone number and I will send you an invitation so that you can join us. -- Pastor Mary Jo

Just a reminder -- tomorrow, (Sunday, July 5) we will not be having communion. We will have this on July 12 instead.

Everyone have a happy and safe Independence Day!

Blessings to all -- Pastor Mary Jo

Friends, you are invited to a small birthday celebration for Enid Carter who turns 96 years of age, to be held on July 17 in the private dining room at St. James Manor in Oneonta from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Cards would be appreciated, even if you cannot attend. You may mail cards to:
Karen Green
P. O. Box 26, Owego, NY 13827

--OR--

You could also put cards in the church office where I (Pastor Mary Jo) will pick them up and take them to the party. Save a stamp and make sure they get there on time!

Angel food cake in the tradition that Enid's mother started and some cupcakes will also be served.

It's time to celebrate our beloved Enid!

Though the newsletter calendar says we are having communion on July 5, we are postponing it until the 12th due to the holiday weekend
The Strawberry Festival is coming up, too -- 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026 in the Fisher Fellowship Hall. Strawberry shortcake, ice cream sundaes, hot dogs, hamburgers, salads and a bake sale will all be a part of this much-enjoyed event. Pass the news around. Sign-up sheets for bake sale, helping, and donating fresh strawberries are on the table in the Fellowship Hall if you wish to take part.
