FBC Darlington FBC exists to glorify God by Going out and making disciples, Gathering together as the church, and Growing in our relationship with Christ.

The church is often seen as a place one goes to visit. Someone "goes to church" to get encouragement, alleviate some guilt, witness a wedding, or fix some problem in their life. However, the truth God gives us in describing the church is that it isn't a place we go to at all! The "church" as described by God, consists of people who know the redemption of Jesus Christ, and are serving Him together

with their lives. This is what FBC seeks to be about. We would love for you to come meet and experience the church. Our hope is any guest will find a place where they are loved, connected to, and finds truth.

What if everything you are chasing is just v***r? In Ecclesiastes 1, Solomon -- the wisest man who ever lived -- looked at wisdom, wealth, and achievement and called it all hevel: a fog that promises substance but dissolves the moment you reach for it.

Escapism, hedonism, nihilism -- these are the dead ends the world offers when life disappoints. But Solomon points us somewhere better. Real joy, real satisfaction, real meaning are not found by accumulating more under the sun. They are found by fixing your eyes beyond it.

As Paul writes in Romans 8, the sufferings and futility of this present time are not worth comparing to the glory that is coming. We were made for something eternal. Let that change how you hold everything else.

What if everything you are chasing in this life is like a v***r -- always just out of reach, never quite delivering what it promised?

In Ecclesiastes 1, Solomon cuts through the noise with a word that echoes across 3,000 years: vanity of vanities, all is vanity. Not to leave us hopeless, but to wake us up. The things of this world were never meant to satisfy us, because we were made for something beyond it.

As C.S. Lewis put it, "If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world." That is the heartbeat of Ecclesiastes -- and the good news is that God loves you in your insignificance and offers you something no earthly pursuit ever could.

When life falls apart, we ask the hardest question: where is God in all of this? The book of Job does not flinch from that question. It takes us straight into the pain and forces us to reckon with something uncomfortable — we are not the center of the story. God is.

In Job 38, God answers Job not with an explanation but with a revelation of his own magnitude. The one who laid the foundations of the earth, who commands the seas and the dawn, who gives mankind alone the capacity to even ask questions of right and wrong — that God is not absent in suffering. He is sovereign over it.

And the story does not end with Job. It ends with a God who loved us enough to enter our suffering himself. The sovereign Lord of the universe went to a cross so that we could find our comfort, our hope, and our life in him alone.

• God’s love wasn’t earned by good behavior
