Beloved Danville Stake Members,

We are so excited to have Elder I. Raymond Egbo preside at our Stake Conference on November 15th and 16th. He is a General Authority sSeventy from Nigeria and is a wonderful disciple of Jesus Christ.

Our theme for the conference is Helaman 5:12….”remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds…it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall."

This verse is a heartfelt plea from the prophet Helaman to his sons, Nephi and Lehi, and it is just as powerful and relevant for us today. We are constantly subject to storms. The mighty winds and whirlwinds represent the challenges, temptations, pressures, and uncertainties we encounter in life.

As we build our lives upon the Rock of our Redeemer, Jesus Christ, these storms "shall have no power over you to drag you down." Building upon this foundation means striving to do the things the Savior taught and working to actively build a stronger covenant relationship with Him.

This Stake Conference is a wonderful opportunity to inspect our own foundations. Let us commit to making our foundation in Christ more sure as we gather to worship together. Please join us!

With love,

Danville, California Stake Presidency

Like you, we were horrified and saddened by the shocking violence that occurred in Michigan at one of our chapels last Sunday. We join our brothers and sisters across the world to pray for those who lost loved ones and who were injured or otherwise impacted by this unspeakably traumatic experience.

In the wake of this tragedy, we are inspired by the outpouring of love towards the members of the Grand Blanc Ward from inside and outside the church. Local churches have offered their church facilities and those impacted have received incredible love and support from their community. Members of this ward have shared how they felt comforted and strengthened as they have leaned on their faith in Christ and ministered to each other.

As an act of Christlike love and forgiveness, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints created a Go Fund Me campaign for the family of the man responsible for these evil acts. Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been donated to the campaign. These Saints embody Christ’s admonition in the Sermon on the Mount to “love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.” Let us be peacemakers and show our love to all, even those most difficult to love.

Our hearts are also heavy following the recent passing of President Russell M. Nelson at the age of 101. We love him and will continue to be inspired by his Christian discipleship and ministry. His words will bless our lives for years as he inspired us to think celestial, stay on the covenant path, gather Israel on both sides of the veil, be peacemakers, and to look for Christ in the temple (amongst many other inspired teachings). His teachings were always Christ focused and full of hope and positivity. We love President Nelson.

We are also excited for General Conference this weekend where we will receive the words of Christ through His prophets, seers, and revelators. We look forward to the sacred privilege to sustain a new prophet and First Presidency. We invite you to prepare spiritually for General Conference. We love and appreciate you.

100 days prior to President Russell M. Nelson’s 100th birthday on September 9th, our dear prophet invited us to celebrate by reaching out to "the one" in need. He invited us to "consider prayerfully: who do you know who may be discouraged? Who might you need to reconcile with or ask for forgiveness? Has one name been on your mind lately, though you haven’t quite known why? As you bring these questions to the Lord, He will inspire you to know how you can reach out and lift one who needs help.”

We are inspired by the ways that members of the Danville Stake have embraced this invitation and have shared the light and love of Jesus Christ with others. Thank you for all that you do for your families, wards, and in the community.

Dear Members of the Danville Stake-

The Lord taught that in Section 115 of the Doctrine and Covenants that we have stakes in the church for "a defense, and for a refuge from the storm". As we come together in fellowship to follow Jesus Christ, we hope and pray that you find peace and refuge.

We are energized and strengthened as we serve alongside you. There are countless examples of stake members who demonstrate beautiful acts of Christlike love. As we seek for the Holy Ghost in our lives, we can be God's hands to answer others' prayers. President Spencer W. Kimball taught "God does notice us, and he watches over us. But it is usually through another person that he meets our needs.”

As we recognize the blessings of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and the fellowship we enjoy, we invite you to think of friends and neighbors who might appreciate an invitation to join you at a service event or a church meeting or activity. We have a special opportunity to invite friends and neighbors to our stake picnic on August 26th. It will be a wonderful event. We hope to see you all there.

We love you and appreciate all that you do.

Dear Members of the Danville Stake -

There is excitement in the air as students complete their school years and begin Summer vacation. We extend our congratulations to all of the recent high school and college graduates. We have also loved reconnecting with many college students returning home and are so proud of each of them.

During the Summer months we will be blessed to hear from 11 missionaries returning home and more than 20 missionaries leaving to serve from the Danville Stake in ward sacrament meetings. We love these disciples of Jesus Christ. As we hear of their experiences and testimonies, we hope we will all be inspired to also contribute to the gathering of Israel. President Russell M. Nelson referred to that gathering as “the most important thing taking place on earth today.”

So how do we get involved?

President Nelson taught that “anytime you do anything that helps anyone—on either side of the veil—take a step toward making covenants with God and receiving their essential baptismal and temple ordinances, you are helping to gather Israel. It is as simple as that.”

Let’s be prayerful about how each of us can focus our efforts to continue to gather Israel here in the Danville Stake.

We love you and appreciate all that you do.

MAY DANVILLE STAKE PRESIDENCY MESSAGE

Dear Members of the Danville Stake -

This is a wonderful time of year as many of our college-age students come home for the summer, several missionaries are coming and going, and the school year winds down. We also had the great opportunity to hear from Church leaders in our most recent General Conference.

One theme that was highlighted by many speakers during Conference was how we can find personal peace in our lives through following the teachings and example of Jesus Christ. President Eyring taught this through reciting a portion of John 14 in the New Testament and testifying of the five lessons he learned from those verses. Those lessons included:

-We receive the gift of peace after we have faith to keep His commandments.
-The Holy Ghost will abide with us.
-As we keep our covenants, we can feel the love the Father and the Son have for each other and for us.
-Keeping the Lord’s commandments requires more than obedience - we are to love God with all our heart, might, mind, and soul.

The Lord loved us enough to pay the price of our sins so that through our faith and repentance the effects of His Atonement can give us peace that “passeth all understanding.”

Camille Johnson, Relief Society General President, also reiterated this message by emphasizing the relief that comes into our lives through Jesus Christ. She talked about how we all carry a backpack filled with the burdens of living in a fallen world - which burdens generally fall into three different types of metaphorical rocks:

-Rocks there of our own doing because of sin.
-Rocks because of the poor decisions, misconduct, and unkindness of others.
-Rocks we carry because we are living in a fallen condition (like disease, pain, chronic illness, grief, disappointment, loneliness, and the effects of natural disasters).

She then highlighted how Jesus Christ can lighten our load in each of these areas, teaching from Matthew 11: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest [that is, relief and peace]. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Finally President Nelson talked about how we all need to be peacemakers, teaching that “as disciples of Jesus Christ, we are to be examples of how to interact with others—especially when we have differences of opinion.” He taught that we can be active participants in bringing peace to those around us through our love, kindness, and ministering efforts.

It is our prayer that members of the Danville Stake can find this peace and relief promised by our Savior, and that in striving to do this we can also be instruments in the Lord’s hands to spread love and kindness to others as taught by President Nelson.

Danville Stake Presidency
