Spring Hill Cemetery & Mausoleum

Celebrates

Its 160th Anniversary with Historical Tours

When:​ Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. (Rain date – October 12)

Where:​ Spring Hill Cemetery, 301 E. Voorhees (older section – south of Voorhees – tour directions will be provided inside gate on south side entrance on Voorhees).

Cost:​ Free – one must register to sign up for tours, however. One may sign up for one, two, or three tours.

What:​ Five guided tours will be provided simultaneously on site.

​The tours are:

​Friends of Lincoln -- led by Larry Weatherford & Alan Woodrum. Tour times – 1:00 and 2:30 p.m. Among the graves to be visited are those of Oscar Harmon and family, General John C. Black, and Mariah Vance.

​Notable Women – led by Diana Larkin, Sue Harris, and Rebecca Woodrum. Tour times – 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00 p.m. Among the graves to be visited are those of Lottie Jones, Frances Pearson Meeks, and Harriet Wolters.

​Notable African-Americans – led by Jacqueline Woodard-Smith. Tour times– 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. Among the graves to be visited are Frank Neal, Laura Lee, and Dr. James Rachel.

Jewish Heritage – led by Sybil Mervis.
Tour times – 1:00, 2:00. and 3:00 p.m.
Among the graves to be visited are those of Mayor Louis Platt, Judge Casper Platt, the Mekel family, Isadore Mervis, and Louis Mervis.

Little Known History of Spring Hill - led by Mark Denman. Tour times – 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00 p.m. Among the graves to be visited are those of Hiram Beckwith, Enoch Kingsbury, and Vern & Minnie Ha Ha Stark.

One must contact the cemetery to reserve a spot on the tour(s) and time(s) one wishes to attend. One may call 217- 442-0334 or may email the cemetery office at: [email protected] to reserve your spot(s). One may attend one, two or three tours. Space is limited to 15 attendees per tour.

Notes:​ Walking is involved on the tours, both on the cemetery drives and among some graves. Feel free to bring water, etc., if one wishes. The tours are not handicapped accessible.

SpringHill Cemetery is pleased to offer a selection of hanging baskets and vase decorations to be placed on your loved one's grave for Memorial Day.
