“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬-‭17‬ ‭

“The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us,”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭17‬:‭24‬-‭27‬ ‭

It’s just an empty building until His people gather there. If you’re trying to feel your way towards Him feel free to join us.

It’s Saturday. Jesus’ followers weren’t really anticipating an unprecedented miracle. They grieved. They had questions. They didn’t have answers. A restless day of rest. They were caught in the in between.

Maybe you’re caught up in the between. Right where questions are exhausted and seem like a waste of time but answers feel elusive. Maybe this is leading you nowhere but maybe it’s leading you to the cross. As another Saturday’s sun sets maybe you should doubt your doubts. Maybe you should look into this man that has had all these miraculous claims made about him.

For more on the story you can join us tomorrow as we look at the account of a resurrection from the dead.

It’s Friday. The overnight hours have been spent getting Jesus charged with blasphemy before the Sanhedrin. This charge wouldn’t be enough to do anything legal with the Romans so the religious leaders reframed it as treason against Caesar and Rome for claiming to be a king. While Pilate found nothing wrong with Jesus he gave in to the wishes of the early morning crowd and condemned him to be crucified. First he would be mocked and flogged, brutally beaten and tortured before being physically nailed down and hung up on a cross. At about Noon darkness covers the land. The weight of the wrath of God bears its weight onto Jesus. At around 3 in the afternoon Jesus cries out, “It is finished.” He gives up his spirit and dies. In a race against the sun as Sabbath approaches they take Jesus off the cross and put him in a sealed tomb with a soldier on guard.

On that Friday it seemed that death had won. That sin and chaos and evil would get the last word. Confusion, frustration and grief filled the hearts of Jesus’ followers. But it was only Friday.

Does it seem that sin has won? That evil gets the last punch in? Are you filled with grief, frustration or confusion? Look to the cross and believe that even when it couldn’t be fully understood it was still a good Friday.

It’s Thursday. Jesus’ disciples prepare a Passover meal for them to partake in later that evening. They all come together to eat. Little did they know the true and better Passover Lamb was getting ready to be slaughtered to cover their sins. Judas slips out of their midst to conspire against Jesus. Jesus and his disciples head to the garden to pray where the weight of what Jesus was about to face bears its weight down on him. Judas shows up with officials to betray Jesus. His disciples scatter. Everyone that said they’d never leave is gone. But he was resolute. He was headed to the cross and nothing would stop him.

Have you missed the true Passover Lamb in the midst of celebration?
Have you went back on your word?
Have you folded under pressure in the face of the world and denied Jesus?
It’s Thursday and He’s headed to the cross for all of that and more.

It’s Wednesday. A woman brings a bottle of pure nard to pour over Jesus. The cost of the act, about a year’s wage, seems too extravagant to some, especially Judas. He leaves and meets up with people to conspire how to get Jesus arrested. While some see Jesus’ worth others only see what he costs them. And so it is today. Some count the cost and consider it too high. But it’s Wednesday and Jesus knows the cost that he is about to pay but it doesn’t stop him from getting to the cross.

It’s Tuesday
Jesus has some people following him and listening on the edge of their seats. Others, ironically the most ritually religious, were enraged by his claims of being deity. So they questioned him. His answers confounded them but they refused to believe. So they went about trying to have him killed. Except he would lay down his life as he had been planning from the beginning.

What do you find yourself questioning about Jesus’ words? What proof and what answers does he have to give to earn your trust? Because it’s Tuesday and he’s headed to the cross to prove that he is exactly who he said he is.

It’s Monday. Jesus walks to the Temple and sees vendors selling sacrifices and exchanging money. He’s filled with anger that religion had went from true worship to a matter of convenience. He overrturns the money tables and drives people from the courtyard of the Temple.

What is your religion like?
Is it a matter of what’s most convenient? Maybe you’re trying hard to throw God a bone while not changing anything. Jesus doesn’t really do that.

It’s Monday. He’s making his way to the cross to lay down his life for the sins of the world.
Will you lay down your life and take up your cross?

“Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭16‬:‭24-25

Palm Sunday
Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a donkey to fulfill scripture. At the same time he’s fulfilling Scripture many are misunderstanding it. Palms were a cultural symbol of victory for the Jewish people. So when they saw Jesus riding in town they laid down palms shouting, “Hosanna!” The people thought that Jesus was there to save them now. To bring political reform. To overthrow Rome. To put their people back on top.
In the same city people would shout, “crucify him!” later in the week. When Jesus wasn’t who they thought, when it was revealed that he hadn’t come to make their nation great again they flipped. Jesus didn’t fit their agenda.

How about you? Do you think he primarily came to make your life better? Are you serving him because of what he can offer you? Have you misunderstood the Scriptures about him?

He didn’t come to set up an earthly kingdom. He didn’t come to help us defeat our earthly enemies. He came to defeat the ultimate enemies of sin and death.

Colossians 1:13 “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son”
