Mona Patricia Hensley Brotherton, 82, of Danville, VA, died Thursday, November 24, 2022 at Brookdale Senior Living in Danville after a decline in her health since August 2, 2022.

Mona was born in Unicoi County, TN, on September 23, 1940, a daughter of the late Bud Hensley and Mamie Banner Hensley. She lived most of her life in Danville, VA and retired from the Danville Credit Union where she worked as a teller.

Mona was a member of West End Christian Church. She served on several committees at the church and she wrote the church bulletin and prepared the newsletter. She loved bowling and was an avid golfer. She was a member of the Grasshopper Golf League.

On January 23, 1959 she was married to Carl James Brotherton, who died on October 26, 2019.

Mona is survived by a son, David Brotherton of Blairs, VA; three sisters, Abby Jackson of Johnson City, TN, Genny Ruble of Charlotte, NC, and Teddy Hensley of McGregor, TX; five grandchildren, Brittany Wyatt Mason (Michael) of Jenks, OK, Andrew Ambrose of Clayton, NC, Laura Ambrose of Atlanta, GA, Megan Ambrose of Wilmington, NC, and Caitlyn Ambrose of Angier, NC; and three great grandchildren, Emma Belle Mason and Olivia Grace Mason, of Jenks, OK, and Betty Yvonne Ambrose of Clayton, NC.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 2, 2022 at 6:30 P.M. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Reverend Catina Martin officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home from 5:30 until 6:30 P.M.

Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is respectfully serving the Brotherton family.
