Join us for our 30th Celebration Weekend!
For 30 years, a small congregation in an historic church in downtown Danville has helped nurture ideas, organizations and relationships that have reached far beyond its walls.
The Unitarian Universalist Community Church of Hendricks County (UUCCHC) will celebrate its 30th anniversary September 12-13, 2026. The public is welcome throughout the weekend. The celebration begins Saturday, September 12, during Danville’s Fair on the Square. Visitors are invited to the church located just behind the Mayberry Café for activities beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Saturday, September 12
12:30-2 p.m. - Pipe Organ Concert

On Sunday, September 13, the congregation will hold a special 30th anniversary service featuring voices from different chapters of UUCCHC’s history, including founding member Sam Carman, longtime friend of the congregation and Unitarian Universalist minister Rev. Bill Breeden, and Rev. Elizabeth Price, a regular guest speaker at UUCCHC.

UUCCHC was incorporated in 1996 after a small group of local Unitarian Universalists purchased the former Cumberland Presbyterian Church, an 1884 building at 95 N. Jefferson St. in Danville. Over the decades, members of the congregation have helped create and support organizations and initiatives that have become part of Hendricks County life. Church members were involved in the beginnings of McCloud Nature Park, Alliance for Diversity, Hendricks County Pride and the local Family Promise organization. The congregation and its members have also supported efforts addressing hunger, housing, conservation, LGBTQ+ inclusion and other community needs.
“Our congregation has never been large, but we know that you don't have to have a lot of people to make a difference,” said UUCCHC Board President Rosie Blankenship. “People have found one another here, shared ideas and carried those ideas out into Hendricks County. As we celebrate this anniversary, we’re asking what our community needs from us now and what we can help build together over the next 30 years.”
The congregation is exploring new ways to serve as a gathering place for the wider community. This year, UUCCHC is launching Caring CommUUnity, a grant-supported series of inclusive public gatherings designed to reduce isolation and create opportunities for people to meet, build friendships and experience a greater sense of belonging.
UUCCHC is a lay-led Unitarian Universalist congregation committed to religious freedom, spiritual growth, justice, compassion and service. People of all religious backgrounds — as well as those who claim no particular religious tradition — are welcome.
