Pastor’s Note for September 24, 2022
When God was going to destroy S***m and Gomorrah because they had wholly given over to sexual perversion, Abraham pleading with God in an attempt to save those cities on behalf of any that were righteous living in them. Abraham said (Gen 18:25) Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? God is Holy and just and must deal with sin or cease to be Holy and just. There are several wonderful truths that we see in this incident such as God’s willingness to listen to those who are righteous and grant their request and also His readiness to show mercy. These same truths were seen when Moses interceded on behalf of the Israelites. However, because of who He is, God must and will always do right. Anytime God does or allows something to happen to anyone, be assured that He is doing right. We may not understand the particulars of the why, but we can trust that His actions are right and just. In fact, because He is just, He must act accordingly. Sometimes people, even Christians, forget this. They forget that, while He totally forgives the repentant sinner, sin always brings consequences. Ethan told David that his sin was forgiven, but David’s actions brought much harm and heartache upon him. It is the same with every one of us and something we should keep in mind before doing or saying anything that will bring harm or hurt upon anyone in any way. Justice demands it and it will come to pass. God had completely forgiven Paul, even though Paul had caused much hurt and pain to many Christians, but God also said to Ananias speaking of Paul
Act 9:15-16 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: (16) For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.
God never abandons His servants, even when they have done wrong. He will continue to use them in the service He has called them, but they will suffer in some way which God in His wisdom will determine. It will be for God’s glory and it will always be just. We must refrain from seeking or doing harm in any way to those who sin against us. If we do, we will bring trouble upon ourselves. Many Christians can regrettably testify of this truth.
1Peter 3:8-9 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: (9) Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
Our reaction to what others do will result in our inheriting a blessing or a curse.
