This Sunday, in Week 5 of our Shepherd Psalm series, we discover that the cure for our fear in the valley isn't the absence of danger, or an explanation, or an escape — it's a Presence.

We have a Shepherd who walked through the darkest valley of all — death itself — and came out the other side, so that he could promise, "I am with you always."

I'll be sharing honestly from my own walks through the valley — and from years walking others through theirs.

Whatever valley you're in, you don't walk it alone. Come.

Have you ever shattered something you loved — and known, the second it broke, that it could never be the same again?

We feel that way about ourselves sometimes. We carry around broken pieces — old wounds, failures, regrets, a heart that's been cracked by life — and quietly wonder if we're beyond repair.

There's an ancient Japanese art called kintsugi. When a treasured bowl shatters, instead of hiding the cracks or throwing it away, the artist mends every break with pure gold — and the mended bowl becomes more beautiful, and more valuable, than it was before it ever broke.

This Sunday, in Week 4 of our Shepherd Psalm series, we're slowing down on one of the tenderest lines in all of Scripture — "He restores my soul" (Psalm 23:3) — and discovering that this is exactly what God does with a broken life. He doesn't discard the broken. He doesn't ask you to hide your cracks or glue yourself back together. He takes the very pieces you're most ashamed of and fills them with the gold of His grace.

I'll be sharing honestly from my own story of brokenness — and the healing I could never have given myself.

So bring your pieces. All of them. Come as you are.

Be honest — when's the last time you truly rested?

Not scrolled. Not collapsed on the couch at the end of a long day. Actually rested — the kind that reaches all the way down to your soul.

We live wired, hurried, and worn thin, and most of us have quietly forgotten how to stop. This Sunday we're slowing down on one line of Psalm 23 that speaks straight to the exhausted:

"He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters."

Look at that word — He makes me. The Good Shepherd loves us far too much to stand back and watch us run ourselves into the ground. The very first thing He gives is the one thing our restless hearts can never give themselves: rest.

I know this one firsthand — and I'll be sharing a bit of my own story, a season that nearly broke me and the Shepherd who made me lie down.

So come tired. Come as you are. There's rest waiting for you here.

Men,

Have you ever been driving somewhere familiar, gotten distracted, and suddenly realized you had no idea where you were? Nobody wakes up and decides, "I'm going to get lost today." We just stop paying attention for a while — and little by little we end up somewhere we never intended to be.

The same thing happens spiritually. A boat doesn't have to turn around to drift away from shore. It only has to stop moving toward it.

This Saturday we're kicking off our men's breakfast with a conversation about that very thing — the slow, quiet pull that moves a man away from God without him ever deciding to leave. We'll be in Hebrews 2:1:

"We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away."

We're not just asking, "Have I walked away from God?" We're asking, "Am I still moving toward Him — or have I quietly begun to drift?"

Come eat with us, sit with other men, and take an honest look at where you're headed.

Men of Gateway Church,

A 23-year-old woman named Aicha was pulled out of a boat off the Canary Islands after 22 days adrift. She'd boarded with 58 others, all of them headed toward a better life. Nobody sounded an alarm. Nobody announced they were lost. The boat just stopped working and people stopped steering — and the water took over from there.

Three of them survived.

Here's why I can't shake it: not one man on that boat chose to drift. They only stopped steering. That was enough.

That's how it happens to us, too. No one decides on a Tuesday to become distant from God. No one schedules the year their marriage goes cold. It's a prayer skipped, then a week of them. A friendship that got hard to keep, so it wasn't kept. A compromise that felt survivable — which is exactly why it happened again.
Hebrews 2:1 doesn't warn us about rebellion. It warns us about drift. "Pay the most careful attention... so that we do not drift away."

So let me ask you straight: if you kept living exactly the way you've lived this last month — same habits, same inputs, same prayer life — for five more years, where would the current put you?

Not where you hope. Where you'd actually be.

Paddling in place is not an option. You're either moving toward Christ or the tide is choosing for you.

"The LORD is my shepherd." Some of the most familiar words in the world. But have you ever stopped on the very first word?

This Sunday we're slowing down on one line of Psalm 23 — and discovering that "the LORD" isn't a title. It's a Name. The same God who spoke to Moses out of a fire that wouldn't burn out — "I AM WHO I AM" — is the God who bends down to lead one small, wandering sheep… and who laid down His life to carry it home.

The God David trusted three thousand years ago is the same God who is with you today — and He is worth trusting with everything.

You think you know Psalm 23. This fall, we'll show you that you don't — and that's good news. 🐑

We've all heard "The LORD is my shepherd" a hundred times… and quietly stopped hearing it. So starting this Sunday, August 23, we're slowing all the way down — seven weeks, one verse at a time — until the most familiar words in the Bible come alive again.

It's the journey of every life: the green pasture, the dark valley, and the table where you're welcomed home. And it all points to Jesus, the Good Shepherd of our hearts. We'll even learn it together, one line a week, until we can pray it by heart.
