The church has a dangerous habit of making celebrities the face of Christianity the moment they mention Jesus.

Christian influencers rush to get likes and views without even testing the fruit and authenticity of someone claiming to follow Christ.

When washed up celebrities and po*n stars no longer are relevant, they can mention Jesus and get some attention again and then drag the spotlight right back into darkness and bring along the youth and followers.

When a famous athlete, actor, rapper, or adult entertainer says they’ve “found God,” Christians often rush to celebrate, share their testimony, invite them onto platforms, and present them as examples for everyone else to follow.

But Scripture never tells us to celebrate celebrity. It tells us to test the spirits (1 John 4:1), examine the fruit (Matthew 7:16–20), and not lay hands on someone hastily (1 Timothy 5:22).

The question isn’t merely, “Did they mention God?”

The question is:

* Which Jesus are they following? (2 Corinthians 11:4)
* Does their life increasingly reflect repentance?
* Is there evidence of new fruit over time?

Jesus Himself warned that some seed springs up quickly with joy but has no root and eventually falls away (Matthew 13:20–21). Not every profession of faith proves genuine conversion.

This isn’t about refusing to believe people can change. The gospel transforms murderers, addicts, prostitutes, thieves, and p**n stars. Praise God for that—I am living proof that Jesus changes lives.

But transformation isn’t measured by a headline. It’s measured by perseverance, obedience, humility, and fruit over time.

When the church immediately puts celebrities on a pedestal because of a public profession of faith, we often create spiritual influencers before we’ve seen spiritual maturity. Then, if they return to their former life, many young believers, immature Christians, and those watching from the sidelines become confused or stumble.

Celebrate every profession of faith.

But don’t crown people before they’ve had time to walk with Christ.

The church’s job isn’t to manufacture Christian celebrities.

I pray God continues to work on her heart and heal her before it’s too late. This isn’t condemnation, it’s a warning to those who prematurely celebrate false converts.

Thanks be to God for His mercy and grace in Christ Jesus!! 🙏🏾

Paul is on a roll in Romans 8. He's adding up all the things that can separate you from the love of God in Jesus Christ.

And the total? Nothing, zilch, zero. Not death, not life, not anything in all this vast creation where good and evil coexist.

This is the math of mercy. God's nothing.

But still we continue the list.

•What about my deepest, darkest, most shameful act?

•What about the years I spat in heaven's face?

•What about the terrible things I've done to other people?

•What about all the ways I've led others into iniquity?

•What about this, what about that?

Write your list. Use up every drop of ink, cover every sheet of paper, go on and on and on with the innumerable screw-ups in your life.

When you've finally finished that exhaustive list of all the things that you think can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus, add them all up. Take that number and multiply it times God's zero.

All your sins x God's zero = zero.

This is the math of mercy. God's nothing. Your everything in Jesus Christ, who is bigger than your sin, more loving than your hate, more faithful than your infidelity.

Lord, I believe.
Help Thou my unbelief.

That is our table prayer,
our bedside prayer,
our office prayer,
our driving prayer,
our 24/7 petition.

Lord, I do believe,
but I also don’t believe.
I am a cocktail of contradictions:
double-hearted,
forked-tongued,
pulled heavenward
and hellward
every step I take.

I fear you but I also fear failure.
I trust you but I also trust myself.
I love you but I also love the limelight.

Lord,
I am a saint and a sinner,
your bride and the devil’s w***e.

Lord, I believe.
Help Thou my unbelief.
