And just like that, our Transfigured Nights 2025-2026 season comes to an end! Join us this Sunday, June 14, for our final evensong commemorating the English mystic and writer Evelyn Underhill (1875-1941).

The music will feature music of the 21st century by Grace-Evangeline Mason, Howard Helvey, Joel Martinson, and Sarah MacDonald. Hymns by David Hurd and Richard Proulx from the late 20th century will round out the service.

Joel Martinson will direct the choir and Artist-in-residence Jonathan Gregoire will play the organ. The Rev. Maddie Hill will officiate and the Rev. Casey Shobe will be the homilist.

A reception will follow in the Gathering Space celebrating the conclusion to this successful season of music. The event is free of charge and open to the public - Childcare is provided.

Join us for a celebration of twenty-two years of choral singing under the direction of Joel Martinson!

This Sunday, May 3, the Transfiguration Choir, soloists, and orchestra will present Joseph Haydn’s Missa Cellensis in C in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

This rarely performed “cantata mass” composed in 1766, is a tour de force for strings, winds, chorus, and vocal soloists. The 50-voice Transfiguration Choir will be joined by a 24-piece orchestra under concertmaster Kristin Van Cleve, and soloists Elizabeth McGee, soprano, Erin Roth Thomas, alto, Eric Lewis, tenor, and Connor Lidell, bass.

The musicians will perform from the altar platform and floor in the front of the church, so the audience will have a great view, as well as the unique opportunity to hear the full resources of choir and orchestra in our new acoustical environment.

Transfigured Nights presents this performance in thanks to you, our patrons, and to all of our supporters since we began in the Fall of 2004.

This Festival Concert is FREE of admission and open to all.

This program explores the depth and architectural beauty of the German organ sonata tradition. From the clarity of Baroque counterpoint to the bold colors of Romantic and modern sonatas, the evening traces a lineage of sound shaped by resonance, structure, and spirit.

Our Transfigured Nights season is Renewal and Resonance. The sanctuary’s refined acoustics from the recent renovations allow the organ to speak with extraordinary warmth and presence, and this music really comes to life in a satisfying and immersive way.

Back by audience demand...and this year it's even better!

Last season, the Wind Quintet's concert was in the Performance Hall while our Sanctuary was under renovation. This time, they return to perform in the Sanctuary, with our beautifully enhanced acoustics that finally give these instruments the room and resonance they deserve.

As Willa Henigman (oboist, Dallas Symphony Orchestra) shared in our conversation, the new Sanctuary lets the sound breathe, bloom, and support the musicians in a way that completely changes the experience.

On the program:
• Amy Beach – Pastoral, a luminous, nature-inspired work shaped by her time at the MacDowell artist colony
• Eric Ewazen – Roaring Fork Quintet, a vivid musical portrait of the Colorado river valley
• Oscar Navarro – Juego de Ladrones (Game of Thieves), a thrilling, story-driven Spanish work inspired by Cervantes, full of drama, chase scenes, and color

This is the first full chamber music concert in our newly renovated Sanctuary, and it’s the perfect way to experience what this space can do.

Join us for a Solemn Requiem Mass in observance of All Souls’ Day, featuring Gabriel Fauré’s beloved Requiem in D minor, Op. 48, for low strings, harp, organ, violin, choir, and soloists.

This luminous setting, cherished for its serenity and hope, will be woven through the Eucharistic liturgy in a reflective evening of remembrance, prayer, and peace.

Jason Awbrey will sing the baritone solos and the Pie Jesu will be sung by Elizabeth Ann McGee. Joel Martinson will conduct the Transfiguration Choir and orchestra with Jonathan Gregoire, organist.

The service will conclude in the Memorial Garden where the names of all parishioners interred in the Columbarium and ground will be recited.

Our guest preacher will be The Right Reverend Dean E. Wolfe, Bishop in Residence at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Dallas. Prior to this position he was thirteenth Rector of St. Bartholomew's Church, New York City. Before that he served as Bishop of the Diocese of Kansas and was Vice-president of the House of Bishops for the Episcopal Church.

Transfigured Nights proudly presents award-winning organist Katelyn Emerson in her recital debut on the J. D. Godwin Organ – Richards, Fowkes & Co.’s Opus 17. The concert will end our fifteenth anniversary celebration of the dedication of this world class instrument.

Ms. Emerson is the 2016 winner of the American Guild of Organists’ NYACOP competition, the semifinal round of which was held at Transfiguration. Her performance this Sunday, October 12, at 7 pm, will fulfill our long-held dream to have her return to play a solo recital on our beautiful organ.

You are invited to greet Ms. Emerson following the concert at a reception in the Parlor.
