Love is the doctrine of our church;
The quest of truth is its sacrament,
And service is its prayer. To dwell together in peace,
To seek knowledge in freedom,
To serve humanity in fellowship,
To the end that all souls shall grow
in harmony with the divine -
Thus do we covenant with each other.

Maybe you’ve spent years feeling caught between your faith and your identity. Maybe you’ve stopped going to church because you’re tired of wondering whether you’ll be truly accepted if people know who you are. Maybe you’re still searching for a spiritual community, but you’re afraid of being hurt again.

🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 For Pride Month, we’re resharing this episode of Tiny Pulpit Talks exploring LGBTQ+ belonging in Unitarian Universalism.

In it, Rev. Dr. Daniel Kanter and Rev. T. J. Fitzgerald reflect on what it means to find a faith community where you don’t have to leave any part of yourself at the door.

What does it mean to live an examined life when the world makes you want to turn away?

In his sermon on Sunday, Rev. Dr. Daniel Kanter reflected on last week’s press conference where faith leaders gathered in solidarity with our Muslim neighbors—and were met with hostility and hateful rhetoric.

What can an Irish folktale teach us about living a meaningful life? In this sermon, Rev. Dr. Daniel Kanter explores Teig O’Kane and the Co**se, a haunting and hopeful tale about a man forced to carry a burden through the night until he finally faces the truth about himself. Along the way, the story becomes a reflection on guilt, responsibility, redemption, and the courage to change.

🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ At First Unitarian Church of Dallas, we celebrate the inherent worth and dignity of every person. We affirm, welcome, and support LGBTQIA+ people not just during Pride Month, but every day of the year.

This month’s Sunday Giveback will support the new First Unitarian LGBTQIA+ Support and Justice Fund.

The targeted attacks against our LGBTQIA+ siblings call for a direct response. This new fund supports care and support of people in our church whose very selves are the targets of hateful messages and conduct while also advancing dignity and justice for all by supporting church initiatives, partnerships, and alliances that strive for collective liberation.

Give now by going to https://tinyurl.com/sundaygiveback and selecting LGBTQIA+ Support & Justice from the dropdown.

“Any damage to the First Amendment, religious freedom, the right to freely practice one’s faith, and the right to peacefully assemble is damage to all of us and to our country.”

Rev. Dr. Daniel Kanter of First Unitarian Church of Dallas joined Muslim, Christian, Jewish, and community leaders in Grand Prairie yesterday to speak out against the cancellation of the DFW Epic Eid celebration at Epic Waters following political pressure from Governor Greg Abbott. As faith leaders emphasized, religious liberty cannot be reserved for some faiths and denied to others. When the rights of one community are restricted, the rights of all are weakened.

First Unitarian Church of Dallas condemns the hateful rhetoric directed at Muslim families and rejects attempts to portray intolerance as a Christian value.

We stand with our Muslim neighbors in their right to celebrate their faith freely, safely, and without discrimination. Religious freedom, equal treatment, and human dignity belong to everyone.

What is our ethical responsibility to one another?

In this age of excess and extraction, our Unitarian Universalist faith calls us to notice the people carrying the burden and to choose relationship over transaction—a message we were reminded of this Sunday through the Taiwanese folktale “Three for Free.”
