Two young men took an important step toward discerning the priesthood this past weekend.

Bishop Edward J. Burns celebrated a Mass for the Rite of Admission to Candidacy for Holy Orders on Aug. 2 at Holy Trinity Seminary, officially recognizing seminarians Daniel Sanchez and Andrew Darling as candidates for the priesthood.

"It is important for us to realize that every church has the living heart of Jesus Christ present in the Holy Eucharist," Bishop Burns told the seminarians in his homily. "It is from this altar that we receive His heart. It is from this altar that we learn how to love. And it is from this altar that Christ sends us into the world so that others may encounter His compassion through us."

The Rite of Candidacy is a significant milestone in a seminarian’s vocational journey. During the liturgical rite, he publicly declares his intention to seek holy orders, and the Church formally accepts him as an official candidate for the priesthood.

Join us in congratulating Daniel and Andrew, and please keep them in your prayers as they continue answering God’s call and preparing to serve the People of God as future priests.
