“I know you inside and out, and find little to my liking. You’re not cold, you’re not hot—far better to be either cold or hot! You’re stale. You’re stagnant. You make me want to vomit. You brag, ‘I’m rich, I’ve got it made, I need nothing from anyone,’ oblivious that in fact you’re a pitiful, blind beggar, threadbare and homeless.” - Revelation 3:16, The Message translation

This passage is more familiar to church folks with the “… because you are neither cold nor hot, but lukewarm, I will spit you out of my mouth …” verbiage.

It’s a text about passion … or the lack thereof, in the church at Laodicea. But, if we’re honest, most people are passionate about something. Almost everyone has some hill on which she or he is willing to die. So, it’s not that the church in Laodicea wasn’t passionate, they were … just not about the right things.

They were passionate about what was coming into the church coffers or their personal bank accounts (“You brag, ‘I’m rich, I’ve got it made, I need nothing from anyone …’”). They were likely passionate about appearances. The sanctuary was gilded with gold. The people and priests wore all the right clothing (we see you folks on PreachersNSneakers). They bought all the best stuff, but failed to be their best selves. They looked good, but failed to do good.

Their passion was pointless. It had no effect on the poor, the disenfranchised, the hurting, those living on the fringes of society; it had everything to do with the “I” in team.

Matthew 22:36-40
New Living Translation

36 “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?”

37 Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

Later on, Jesus would give a final commandment.

34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:34-35, NLT)

It would seem this whole thing hangs on how we love. How we love God. And how we love others. Especially those so very otherly other than us.

The Casa View Creed is quite simple.
Love on one another and have fun.

No judgment. Just love and fun. No covenant of conformity to sign. Just love and fun.

So, if you’re looking for a place where you can be yourself, believe, and belong. And where you’ll find zero judgment but a lot of love and fun …
