HOMILY HIGHLIGHT /// TWENTY-SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

In this week’s readings, Jesus speaks about the vineyard and our call as disciples to work in the vineyard and bear fruit. As we pursue this call, St. Paul encourages us to think about “whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious.”

These things come from God and point us back to Him, helping us become vines that bear fruit rather than weeds.

This week, how can you make more time to engage with and reflect on what is true, good, and beautiful?

Encounter Jesus at our monthly Praise & Worship Night from 8:30-10:00PM in Perkins Chapel (6001 Bishop Blvd)! The evening will begin with a short talk. Afterward, there will be praise and worship during Adoration. Confession will also be available with three priests.

HOMILY HIGHLIGHT /// 26TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

As Christians, we are called to pursue excellence, but perhaps in a way that looks different from what the world expects. Excellence is not about becoming the “best version of ourselves” for our own sake. Rather, it is a response to the love God has first given us.

In this week’s readings, St. Paul reminds us:

“Have in you the same attitude that is also in Christ Jesus, Who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God something to be grasped. Rather, he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, coming in human likeness; and found human in appearance, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” -Phillipians 2:5-8

With this in mind, how can we not pursue virtue and excellence? Not for selfish gain or recognition, but as a humble response to the incredible gift Jesus has given us through His life, death, and resurrection.
