God makes a promise to Abraham in Genesis chapter 15:3-5.

“And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir. 4 And, behold, the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir. 5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.”

God tells Abraham he will have a child that will be his heir. Yet in the next chapter Sarah comes along and begins to hatch a plan. She says she is barren and to have a child with her handmaid Hagar. Abraham listens and a child is produced by the name of Ishmael.

Genesis 16:1-2
“Now Sarai Abram’s wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar. 2 And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the Lord hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.”

Eventually the appointed time comes for Abraham and Sarah to have a child. They have a boy and name him Isaac.

Abraham now has two children Ishmael and Isaac. One born of the flesh and one of the Spirit.

Ishmael was a product of the flesh. When we do things our way, we make a mess of what God desires to do.

Isaac was a product of the Spirit. He was promised by God. It was in God’s timing and His way. Something only God could do.

Often we want to rush things along and try and figure things out ourselves. Yet we end up making a mess of things every single time.

If we would just wait and let God have His way.

If God has promised you an Isaac don’t settle for an Ishmael.

May you look up at the stars tonight and be reminded that the Lord knows them all by name. If He knows the stars by name what makes you think He would forget yours.

Radical means “very different from the usual or traditional”.

May God make us a radical people. A people that only chases Christ. The usual hasn’t worked, the tradition has left us empty.

Those men of old were deemed radical. They weren’t like everyone else. They were sold out and God exhausted them.

Where are the radical men of God today. Where are those that make their life about the eternal not the temporal.

Let your cry this year be that God would make you radical. Let me warn you that a cry to be radical will mean you face radical problems.

Problems that you have no choice but to rely on Him.

Yet you will know Him!

The persecution in Africa is just the beginning. The Lord will have a people ready for Him it will take that same persecution to prepare us.

“In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judæa, and saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight. And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭3‬:‭1‬-‭4‬

John was different he wasn’t like everyone else. In verse 4 we find that it reads “And the same John”. That same one that Isaiah spoke of came along and he was different than everyone else.

The call of God demands you to be different. We are not to be like this world yet many are mixed together with it. We need to separate ourselves for the work demands a separated vessel.

Within the Gospel of Matthew we find the genealogy of Christ. From Abraham to David and finally ending with Joseph the husband of Mary. We find that God had a purpose for every single one of these individuals. Did they all understand what they were apart of. I’m sure they didn’t and neither do we. Yet we can be sure that God has a plan and a purpose for us. Just because you cannot see the end doesn’t mean there isn’t a purpose in the meanwhile. They were part of something biggger than themselves and so are we.

Positioned for Power

Joseph was thrown into a pit by his siblings. Then he became merchandise and was sold into Egypt. Potiphar’s wife tries to seduce him but Joseph flees. Lies are then told on him to destroy but God used it to position him for the palace. God is always looking at the end, He always has a plan. From the pit to the prison to the palace, a place of power. From a place of hopelessness to a place of power. Who but God can do such things as these. Could it be friend the trouble you are facing isn’t trouble at all but God positioning you for power.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

The God of Positioning

David faced Goliath because God ordered it to happen that way. Some of the same soldiers who witnessed David kill Goliath ended up being the same ones who sat under David. God did that. When it is God’s time to exalt you it will happen. No matter how Hell tries to assassinate your character, or stop God’s plan remember your steps have been ordered. David’s steps were ordered by God. Every detail of your life small or great God is positioning you. Even in the trouble He is positioning you for power. God is working in ways we could never understand. Ways we wouldn’t even believe if He told us. No wonder why David could say “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: But we will remember the name of the LORD our God”. We are trusting in the one who never fails!

A man after the heart of God, will be a man who lingers in His presence. That is the only way we will ever be a people after the heart of God.

Let our hearts long once again for the Creator.

As He increases, so does the trials.
