✨ True Light Update ✨

SO MANY VICTORIES! This week, we gave True Light a much-needed scrub and pressure wash and WOW, what a transformation! The beautiful brick beneath has been revealed, carrying over a century of history and faith.

WE are counting it “ALL JOY,” no matter the challenges we face and we thank God for His continued favor over this church and our mission. 🙌🏾✨

It’s been a hefty process, but every step reminds us how much this building means to the community. We can’t wait to keep pouring love into True Light as we prepare to reopen our doors and serve again.

🎥 True Light in Progress 🌱

When we first walked back into our beloved church, the grass had grown tall and the walls had grown quiet, but the spirit was never gone. 🙌🏾

We’ve rolled up our sleeves and started the journey of restoration, one step at a time. From clearing overgrown weeds to uncovering old brickwork, this video shows just a glimpse of how far we’ve come.

We’re working on so many exciting things behind the scenes, and we can’t wait to share more with you!

1. ⛪️ Founded in 1914, True Light is one of the oldest African American churches still standing in South Dallas.
2. 📜 The church was established during a time of segregation, serving as a vital spiritual, cultural, and community anchor for Black families.
3. 🧱 The original church building was constructed by hand brick by brick by faithful members and volunteers.
4. 🙏🏾Rev. J.L. Hunter led the church faithfully for 32 years, helping to grow and strengthen the congregation.
5. 🙌🏽 Throughout its history, True Light hosted revivals, youth programs, and packed Sunday services that shaped generations.
6. 💧 Many families can trace their spiritual beginnings back to baptisms and fellowships held inside these very walls.

🕊️ A Legacy Worth Restoring 🕊️

This is the current view of True Light Missionary Baptist Church, a sacred place that has stood for over 110 years in South Dallas. Though the building needs a lot of work, the foundation of Faith remains strong!

We are now in the process of restoring this historic church so we can once again open the doors, hold services, and serve the community like we’ve done for generations. We’re incredibly excited about the progress being made and humbled by the opportunity to carry the torch forward.
