Teach The Word Ministries

Teach The Word Ministries What We Believe - Statement of Faith

Teach The Word Ministries bases its ministry on the following statement of faith:

1. We love you always and Godspeed!

Teach the Word is a Bible Teaching Ministry where you can find spiritual help, personal help, advice, and information, all based on the Word of God, and inspired by the Holy Calling of Charles and Carol Hughes as Ministers of the Gospel of God's Word. We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God revealing the love of God to the world.
1 Thessalonians 2:13

; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; John 3:16.

2. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19; John 10:30; Ephesians 4:4-6.

3. We believe in the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood on the cross, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory. Matthew 1:23; John 1:1-4 and 1:29; Acts 1:11 and 2:22-24; Romans 8:34; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Philippians 2:5-11; Hebrews 1:1-4 and 4:15.

4. We believe that all men everywhere are lost and face the judgment of God, that Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation, and that for the salvation of lost and sinful man, repentance of sin and faith in Jesus Christ results in regeneration by the Holy Spirit. Furthermore, we believe that God will reward the righteous with eternal life in heaven, and that He will banish the unrighteous to everlasting punishment in hell. Luke 24:46-47; John 14:6; Acts 4:12; Romans 3:23; 2 Corinthians 5:10-11; Ephesians 1:7 and 2:8-9; Titus 3:4-7.

5. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, whose indwelling enables the Christian to live a righteous and godly life before God. John 3:5-8; Acts 1:8 and 4:31; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 2:14; Galatians 5:16-18; Ephesians 6:12; Colossians 2:6-10.

6. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; the saved unto the resurrection of eternal life and the lost unto the resurrection of damnation and eternal punishment in the Lake of Fire.
1 Corinthians 15:51-57; Revelation 20:11-15.

7. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ and that all true believers are members of His body, the Church.
1 Corinthians 12:12, 27; Ephesians 1:22-23.

8. We believe that the ministry of evangelism (sharing and proclaiming the message of salvation only possible by grace through faith in Jesus Christ) and discipleship (helping followers of Christ grow up into maturity in Christ) is a responsibility of all followers of Jesus Christ. Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8; Romans 10:9-15; 1 Peter 3:15.

9. We believe God’s plan for human sexuality is to be expressed only within the context of marriage, that God created man and woman as unique biological persons made to complete each other. God instituted monogamous marriage between male and female as the foundation of the family and the basic structure of human society. For this reason, we believe that marriage is exclusively the union of one genetic male and one genetic female. Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:5-6; Mark 10:6-9; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9.

10. We believe that we must dedicate ourselves to prayer, to the service of our Lord, to His authority over our lives, and to the ministry of evangelism. Matthew 9:35-38; 22:37-39, and 28:18-20; Acts 1:8; Romans 10:9-15 and 12:20-21; Galatians 6:10; Colossians 2:6-10; 1 Peter 3:15.

11. We believe that human life is sacred from conception to its natural end; and that we must have concern for the physical and spiritual needs of our fellowmen. Psalm 139:13; Isaiah 49:1; Jeremiah 1:5; Matthew 22:37-39; Romans 12:20-21; Galatians 6:10. ABOUT US

This should Not be happening in the United States. This act of firing Ivey, due to his testimony and his stand for his religious beliefs is a Direct Violation of his 1st Amendment Constitutional Rights to Free speech. Let's be Clear, while Ivey is not being attacked in the Federal Government arena, there's still an Office appointed by President Donald J. Trump in 2020 and Lead by Paula White-Cain, to address anti-Christian biases in America, period.

If this is incorrect, please allow White-Cain to clarify her position on this recent occurrence.

How is standing and speaking up for your faith a violation of any existing NBA policies. Why are there policies in any private sector in this Nation against American Christian Liberties given that the 1st Amendment provides the freedom to speak and say what you believe?

If you are on FB or watch the News, you have seen that there are a lot of "Missing Children" Alerts. There have also been a lot of stories about children being bullied in their schools, 2 which resulted in the deaths of young students.

It is clear to me that the Enemy has a planned and calculated agenda for our children, and we need a planned and calculated agenda against the Enemy for their protection 24/7/365.

For Teach The Word Ministries, our plan is going to be prayer, and I hope that you will join us in praying for the protection of all our Children all over this Nation. We need at least 5 (the number for grace) people from every State to promise to pray for your respective State daily. Put your name and the State you will be praying for, and we will trust that you will be committed to that.

Our Children are defenseless against the attacks of the Enemy, unless you, as a Saved Parent, have taught them spiritual warfare, or you already pray for the protection of your kids daily. For all the others, we need to pray for them.

Heavenly Father,

You are the Creator of all life and the Defender of the innocent.

Your Word declares that children are a heritage from the Lord (Psalm 127:3) and that every child is precious in Your sight. Today, we lift up the children of our nation before Your throne of grace.

Lord, we ask that You surround every child with Your divine protection. As it is written, “He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways” (Psalm 91:11). Send Your holy angels to guard our children in their homes, on their way to school, in their classrooms, on playgrounds, and in every place they go.

Father, protect them from those who would seek to harm, abuse, bully, exploit, or traffic them. Break the plans of the wicked and expose every hidden work of darkness. Let the light of truth reveal every evil intention before it can touch a child.

Lord, raise up righteous teachers, administrators, neighbors, and authorities who will watch over children with wisdom and courage. Give them discernment to recognize danger and compassion to intervene quickly.

Your Word warns that anyone who harms a child, one of your little ones, will answer to You. Jesus said, “Whoever causes one of these little ones ( Babes in Christ) who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were drowned in the depth of the sea” (Matthew 18:6). Therefore, righteous Father, we ask that those who harm children be exposed and held accountable.

Let justice prevail in the courts of this land. Guide law enforcement, investigators, judges, and juries so that truth is revealed and justice is done. And above all earthly courts, we ask that Your perfect justice be carried out in the Courts of Heaven.

Lord, we also pray for children who are suffering from bullying, rejection, and cruelty. Heal their hearts and remind them that they are wonderfully made and deeply loved by You (Psalm 139:14). Place friends, mentors, and compassionate adults in their lives who will encourage them and stand with them.

Today, we especially lift up the parents and families who have lost their precious children because of bullying and cruelty. Father of mercies and God of all comfort, draw near to them in their grief (2 Corinthians 1:3–4). Hold them in Your loving arms as they walk through unimaginable sorrow. Give them peace that surpasses understanding and surround them with people who will support and strengthen them.

Lord, may the memory of their children not be forgotten. Let their stories awaken our nation to protect every child more fiercely and love them more deeply.

Finally, we ask that Your Spirit move across this nation. Turn hearts back to righteousness, restore compassion in our schools and communities, and raise up a generation that fears God and loves one another.

We place our children in Your hands, trusting Your promise that “The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore” (Psalm 121:8).

In the Mighty and Protective name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

What happened on Holy Monday?

After Palm Sunday, the next day of Passion week is sometimes called "Holy Monday." There is nothing particularly "holy" about this day, but it is always a good thing to read through the Scriptures about the life of Jesus on the week leading up to His death and resurrection. This chart shows a few things that happened on this day, according to the gospel of Mark. My goal is to show each day this week the events in the Scripture for Passion week.

Disclaimer: The Bible is not always written in chronological order, so it may be difficult to know exactly which specific days these events happened.

King Jehoshaphat prayed to God, and He Answered

Let it be so for America and Israel, that the Saints of the Most High will Humble themselves to Pray, Fast, and Seek the Face of God, to Defeat and Judge all the Enemies of these 2 Nations, so that we too can ...

Stand Still and See the Salvation of the Lord!!

2 Chronicles 20:1-30 NKJV

[1] It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.

[2] Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazon-tamar, which is Engedi.

[3] And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.

[4] And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the LORD: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD.

[5] And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court,

[6] and said, O LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? And rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? And in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none can withstand thee?

[7] Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?

[8] And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying,

[9] If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.

[10] And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;

[11] Here they are, rewarding us by coming to throw us out of Your possession, which You have given us to inherit.

[12] OH, our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.”

[13] Now all Judah, with their little ones, their wives, and their children, stood before the Lord.

[14] Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel, the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, in the midst of the assembly.

[15] And he said, “Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the Lord to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

[16] Tomorrow, go down against them. They will surely come up by the Ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the brook before the Wilderness of Jeruel.

[17] You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the Lord is with you.”

[18] And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem bowed before the Lord, worshiping the Lord.

[19] Then the Levites of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Korahites stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel with voices loud and high.

[20] So they rose early in the morning and went out into the Wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.”

[21] And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the Lord, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying: “Praise the Lord, for His mercy endures forever.”

[22] Now, when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated.

[23] The people of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir to utterly kill and destroy them. And when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another.

[24] So when Judah came to a place overlooking the wilderness, they looked toward the multitude; and there were their dead bodies, fallen on the earth. No one had escaped.

[25] When Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away their spoil, they found among them an abundance of valuables on the dead bodies, and precious jewelry, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away; and they were three days gathering the spoil because there was so much.

[26] And on the fourth day, they assembled in the Valley of Berachah, for there they blessed the Lord; therefore, the name of that place was called The Valley of Berachah until this day.

[27] Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, with Jehoshaphat in front of them, to go back to Jerusalem with joy, for the Lord had made them rejoice over their enemies.

[28] So they came to Jerusalem, with stringed instruments and harps and trumpets, to the house of the Lord.

[29] And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries when they heard that the Lord had fought against the enemies of Israel.

[30] Then the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet, for his God gave him rest all around.

The Will of the Father
Matthew 7:21 (KJV)

As a young Christian, just learning the Bible, this one section of scripture gave me the most pause. I thought I needed to get busy about finding what my purpose in the Body of Christ is, because I surely don't want to hear those words spoken to me.

However, paying attention to verse 22, we find that the many that he was speaking about certainly did know what their purpose was, and it was a big part of their argument.

Their argument was, did we not prophesy in Your Name, didn't we cast out devils in Your Name, didn't we do many miracles in Your Name? Yet, Jesus still spoke those shuddering words to them, "Depart from me, you who work iniquity; I never knew you."

In studying the word "knew" in its original language (Greek), we find that it means "to learn to know, come to know, get a knowledge of."

In a further study of the word "will," we find that it indicates "what one wishes or has determined what shall be done. So, it's not just doing, it's doing what he said and how he said to do it. To do that, we must first ask Him in prayer and wait on his instructions. God's plans not only include What to do, but also includes How to do it.

Jesus makes it clear that verbal confessions are not enough. The issue is obedience and a genuine relationship with Him. The question then becomes: What IS the will of the Father?

1. The Father’s Will Is -That We Believe in The Son
John 6:40 – “And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting Life."

This reveals the foundation of God’s will: saving faith in Jesus Christ. Not merely religious language or church participation, but genuine trust in the Son of God.

2. The Father’s Will Is - Obedience, Not Just Religious Activity
Jesus warns that many will claim to have prophesied, cast out demons, and done wonderful works in His name. Yet He declares, “I never got to know you.” This could be due to a lack of personal time in prayer with him, seeking exactly what his will is.

The issue is not activity but relationship. The will of the Father includes a true relationship with Christ that produces obedience.

3. The Father’s Will Is - Sanctification
1 Thessalonians 4:3 – “For this is the will of God, even your sanctification…”

Sanctification means living a life set apart from sin and the world, and growing in holiness. God's will is not merely that people profess faith but that their lives are transformed by faith in his word.

4. The Father’s Will Is - That We Bear Fruit
John 15:8 – “Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit…”
Fruit includes Christlike character, righteous living, love for others, and works that flow from genuine faith.

5. The Father’s Will Is - That We Hear and Do the Word.
Later in Matthew 7, Jesus describes the wise man who hears His sayings (his word) and does them. True obedience is the evidence of authentic faith.

So, in Summary: The Will of the Father is:

- Believe on the Son of God, Jesus Christ
- Be known by Christ through a real relationship (through daily prayer)
- Obey His Word
- Walk in holiness
- Bear spiritual fruit
- Persevere in genuine faith

Matthew 7:21 reminds us that the kingdom of heaven is not entered by words alone but by a life that truly submits to the Lordship of Jesus Christ

Throughout the Bible, God deals with four people groups. In the Old Testament three are mentioned they are : 1. The Hebrew - The Name of Origin

Definition: the term Hebrew ('lvri) means the "one who crossed." It first appears in Gen 14:13 when Abram is called "Abram the Hebrew." It reflects both a physical crossing (of the Euphrates River) and a spiritual
One - from idolatry to faith in the living God.

God's dealings: God called Abraham out of the nations (Gen 12:1-3). The Hebrew identity emphasizes separation, calling and obedience to God's voice.

2. The Israelite - The Name of Covenant
Definition "Israel" was the name given to Jacob after he wrestled with God(Gen32:28). An Israelite is a descendant of Jacob, through whom came the twelve tribes.

God's dealing: God dealt with Israel nationally and coventally, giving them His Law and promises at Mount Sinai(Ex 19-20). Blessing came through obedience: curses through rebellion (Deut 28). Yet God Promised restoration the the New Covenant (Jer31:31-34).

3. The Jew - The Name of Remnant ang Religion

Definition: The term "Jew" (yehudi) comes from Judah, one of Israel's tribes. After the Babylonian Exile "Jew" referred to all Israelites faithful to the covenant.

God's dealings: God preserved the Jews because the Messiah would come through Judah (Gen49:10);Micah 5:2) Through them came the scriptures (Ro 3:2) and the Savior (Ro 9: 4-5). Even in unbelief, God promises a believing remnant (Ro 11:15).

God puts a bow around His dealings with mankind in the New Covenant.
The Church - The Called - Out Ones

Definition: The Church (ekklesia) means " the called- out assembly". Like Abraham, the Church is called out from the world-this time not by bloodline, but faith in Christ (Gal 3:28).

God's Dealings: The Church is the Body of Christ, composed of both Jew and Gentle believers united under grace (Eph 2:11-22). The Church does not replace Israel but is grafted into the same covenant root (Ro 11:17-24)

5. God's Redemptive Pattern

Hebrew - God called a man(Abraham)
Israelite - God formed a nation (Jacob's descendants)
Jew - God preserved a remnant (Judah and Benjamin).
Church - God calls a body (believers from all nations)

6.Spiritual Summary
Hebrews represent God's calling

Israelites represent God's covenant

Jews represent God's preservation and promises.

Church represents God's grace and fulfllment in Christ

Romans 2:28-29 reminds us"He is not a Jew who is one outwardly ... But he is a Jew who is on inwardly, and circumcision is that of the heart".

The Grand Design

God's Redemptive plan unites all these identities under one eternal covenant.
Hebrew - Faith
Israelite - Law
Jew - Promise
Church - Grace

All find their fulfillment in Jesus Christ, the true seed of Abraham (Gal 3:16)

Happy Thanksgiving to all.
11/23/2025

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Today is the last Sunday before Thanksgiving Day, one of America’s most beloved holidays.

However, in recent years, many have become uncomfortable with the story behind the first Thanksgiving due to the pain and unfortunate events that followed that day.

Some ask: “Is the Pilgrims-and-Native Indian's feast even real?”

Others say: “How can we celebrate when this history also includes a lot of pain?”

So today, we want to honor the truth, the history, and the call of Scripture to Give Thanks in All Things.

Yes, history tells us that there was a real peaceful feast, back in
1621, when the Plymouth Colonists and the Wampanoag Nation shared a harvest celebration. This feast was the result of a Treaty made earlier that year, and it showed genuine cooperation, gratitude, and respect.

A harvest-feast event occurred in the autumn of 1621 at Plymouth Colony (in present-day Massachusetts) between the English colonists (often called “Pilgrims”) and members of the Wampanoag people.

The Wampanoag, under leader Massasoit (also known as Ousamequin) and others, had earlier negotiated a peace treaty with the colonists in March 1621. The colonists had suffered a harsh first winter (arriving late in 1620), and this “feast” celebrated their first successful harvest with the Wampanoag's assistance.

Although it wasn’t called “Thanksgiving” yet, the colonists used the word “thanksgiving” for days of prayer, not days of feasts.

This is the time that was made into a holiday celebration that we know and celebrate today; it wasn't made a holiday until Lincoln proclaimed it in 1941. The latter history is when it became painful. Disease had already devastated Native communities even before the Pilgrims arrived. Over the next decades, English expansion stole land, which led to violence.

King Philip’s War of 1675–76 completely shattered all remaining colonist/native relationships. That's why today, some Native communities view Thanksgiving as a day of mourning, and not a celebration.

So what do we do with this mixed history?

We don’t deny it. We don’t romanticize it. We learn from it — and we let God redeem it.

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE TEACH ABOUT THANKFULNESS

Thanksgiving is bigger than a holiday — it’s a command from God in His Word.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 - “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God…”

Thankfulness doesn’t depend on circumstances but on God’s faithfulness. We are to give thanks in all circumstances, not just the ones we like. But we should Not ignore unfavorable circumstances when they occur. Gratitude is honest — not blind. Gratitude means trusting God even when history, life, or families have broken places in them.

Gratitude unifies. Psalm 133 -“How good and pleasant it is when brethren dwell together in unity!”

The 1621 feast teaches us that different cultures can gather in peace when God’s spirit is present. And while we do mourn the brokenness:

The latter injustices
The loss for Native peoples
The truth that earlier peace did not last

Today, there is a genuine need for repentance, humility, and reconciliation.

Therefore, in redeeming the meaning of Thanksgiving Day, let it be
a day where we:

Give thanks for God’s provision
Pray for the healing of our Nation and others
Honor and listen to Native voices so that we understand their grief.

We are not celebrating the defeat of the Native communities, but we are honoring the good that came from the initial cooperation, the harvests with the help of the Wampanoag Nation, the peace, and the shared meal of God’s provision.

We want to Celebrate Unity, not division, and Live as Peacemakers, according to Matthew 5:9.

WHAT CAN WE BE THANKFUL FOR TODAY, TO CELEBRATE THANKSGIVING? We are thankful for:

The goodness of God
HIS Salvation through Jesus Christ for all men - The greatest reason for thanksgiving.
God’s provision and protection
Family, community, and church
Shared meals, shared lives, shared faith.
The blessing of peace - The 1621 feast reminds us how precious peace is — and how easily it can be lost.

APPLICATION — HOW DO WE LIVE THANKFULLY TODAY?

Practice gratitude intentionally
Every morning, thank Jesus for something he has done in your life.
Build bridges, not walls.

Where there’s hurt — apologize.
Where there’s division — make peace.

Don’t make Thanksgiving defeat— make it about the true meaning:

Food is good.
Family is better.
But Christ is everything.

Pray for our Nation's Healing, Unity, Justice, and Compassion, in Jesus' Mighty Name, Amen.

Let's Pray: “Father, we thank You today — not because everything in our history is perfect, but because You are perfect in Everything.

Teach us to be thankful people, truthful people, and peacemaking people. Bless our families, bless our gatherings, and bless this nation with Your healing, in Jesus’ name — Amen.

May Everyone have a Blessed and Peaceful Thanksgiving Day!!

As we wrap up our studies of the Seven Churches of Revelation, we now end with Laodicea. Laodicea was located near modern-day Denizli, Turkey. Laodicea, in the ancient world, was a very wealthy city known for banking, textiles, and medicine. The church mirrored the city's spirit - rich, self-reliant, and spiritually blind. Its lukewarm water supply illustrated its tepid faith. We live in a Laodicean age - wealthy, comfortable, and often indifferent to the true presence of Christ.

Many churches equate success with crowds and charisma, not conviction and character. Many American churches push for "butts in the seats" and who has the most "anointed" praise and worship leaders and the most "banging" sound system. Yet Jesus still calls: "As many as I love,"I rebuke and chasten. Be zealous therefore, and repent"(v19).

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come into him and dine with him, and him with me. (V20) Christ stands outside His own church, seeking fellowship. He invites relationship over ritual.

Jesus Counsel is three fold :
1.Buy refined gold - faith tested by fire.
2.Wear white garments - righteousness of Christ.
3.anoint eyes with salve - spiritual discernment

In summary - the seven Churches are not just ancient congregations - they are prophetic pictures of the Church Age. Ephesus reminds us to love Christ first. Smyrna calls for endurance. Pergamum warns against compromise. Thyatira demands purity. Sardis exposes spiritual deadness. Philadelphia inspires faithfulness. Laodicea challenges our comfort.

10/25/2025

In continuing our analysis of the seven Churches of Revelation, we come to the church of Sardis.
The Church of Sardis – Revelation 3:1–6
was an ancient, wealthy city in Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey). It sat on a high
plateau and was considered nearly impregnable. Twice in history, it fell to invaders because
the guards became overconfident and literally fell asleep at their posts.

This perfectly illustrates the spiritual condition of the church there. Known for its textile and dye industries, Sardis enjoyed great wealth and reputation, but was spiritually poor. It was the capital of the Lydian kingdom under Croesus, one of the richest
men of the ancient world.

2. The Message from Christ

“I know your works, that you have a name that you live, but you are dead (meaning detached from God).” — Revelation 3:1 (KJV)

Jesus presents Himself as the One who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars—symbolizing the fullness of the Holy Spirit and His authority over the churches. The Spirit gives life—but Sardis was spiritually lifeless.

3. The Spiritual Diagnosis

Sardis appeared alive outwardly but was dead inwardly. The church had a reputation without
reality—religious form without spiritual fire. Like the city’s watchmen, they had become
complacent. Satan didn’t persecute them because they were already powerless.

4. Christ’s Command

“Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die.” — Revelation 3:2

Jesus urged them to wake up, strengthen what was left, remember what they had received, hold fast, and repent. This is revival language—Christ calling for spiritual CPR on a dying congregation.

5. The Warning

“If you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief.” — Revelation 3:3
The warning to Sardis is sobering: spiritual negligence invites sudden judgment. Christ’s
coming will be as unexpected as a thief’s arrival to those asleep in complacency

6. The Faithful Remnant

“You have a few names even in Sardis who have not defiled their garments.” — Revelation 3:4
Despite the general deadness, a faithful few remained pure and undefiled. These will walk with Christ in white, signifying purity, faithfulness, and victory.

7. The Promise to the Overcomer

“He that overcomes, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life.” — Revelation 3:5
Christ promises white garments (purity), assurance of salvation (their names secure in the
Book of Life), and public recognition before the Father and angels.

8. The Message for Today’s Church

The Church of Sardis represents modern congregations that are full of activity but devoid of spiritual vitality. Many have structure without Spirit, programs without power, and crowds without conviction. Christ’s message is clear—wake up, return to the Holy Spirit, and rekindle authentic faith.

9. Prayer of Revival for the Modern Church

Lord Jesus, awaken us where we’ve fallen asleep. Revive what remains of Your Spirit’s flame within us. Forgive us for trusting our reputation more than our relationship with You. Help us to strengthen what remains and clothe us once again in Your righteousness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
