We celebrated our new favorite literary heroine, Miss Emma M. Lion, with a proper tea! The PCBC Library was transformed into the Reed and Rite of St. Crispian’s, where we enjoyed a proper cup of tea, scones, cakes, jam tarts, shortbread and tea sandwiches while discussing the first two volumes of The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion. If you know any of our Between the Pages Book Club participants, you may find them seeking a little caffeine to support their late night reading habit, as they work their way through all eight volumes of this binge-worthy series. We are all anticipating the release of volume 9…Beth Brower, we hope it will be soon!

A heartfelt thank you to our guest authors who joined us for Books and Brunch: Meet the Authors last Saturday! D’Ann Mateer, Becky Wade, and Karen Witemeyer shared about their writing journeys that bring us the stories we love…those where God is in the story. In addition to our panel discussion, we enjoyed a delicious brunch, games, prizes, shopping, and a book signing opportunity with our special guests. It was a great gathering of readers and friends! Our May Between the Pages Book Club is an introduction to a fabulous series by Beth Brower: “The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion”. We will discuss the first two volumes on May 6, but I dare to say…you will want to read all 8 volumes that are currently available. The first volume is very short and simply sets up the wonderful world of Emma M. Lion. You have to push through to the second volume to experience the beauty of this series!

This collection is a charming, character-driven series set in late 19th century London. Told through the witty and observant journal entries of Emma, a thoughtful and independent young woman, the story explores friendship, faith, personal growth, and the quiet unfolding of purpose in everyday life.

In the first two volumes, readers are drawn into Emma’s close-knit circle of neighbors and friends, each with their own quirks, struggles, and spiritual journeys.

You are cordially invited to join us for a spot of tea as we delve into the wit and wisdom of Emma M. Lion. All are welcome! Please email [email protected] for more information and to RSVP. The registration link for Between the Pages Book Club is in our link in bio.

You will find the entire series in print and audiobook format at the PCBC Library. Emma’s journals make a great listen! If you’ve never ventured into the world of audiobooks, this would be the perfect introduction to this reading format. Email to request your Libby account credentials.
