Rise Up

Oh no – what am I gonna do? I’m scared to death! I hope I make it through the day! This could kill me!

I don’t know about you (actually I do) but I am so sick and tired of Satan successfully tempting us to be afraid when we should have courageous faith in God being with us. One of Satan’s most effective lies is causing Christians to be afraid like King Saul instead of being fearlessly faithful like David. If (since) God is with us and fighting for us what in the world are we afraid of?! Fear paralyzes us and keeps us from having joy and peace. It pollutes our beautiful relationship with God. It plays right into Satan’s hand.

Enough already! RISE UP! Trust God! Attack fear with faith. Know that God is in control and He is with you every step of the way. Be determined to have a spirit of power and love and discipline!

Read Numbers 14:1-9; I Samuel 17:41-47; II Timothy 1:7-8 and then listen to Rise Up by Third Day – AND THEN RISE UP!!!

P.S. Imagine if you took a few minutes each day to forward these scripture/song devotionals to co-workers, family, friends, etc.? How hard is that? Maybe they will help a loved one come closer to Jesus. Maybe they will come visit Walnut Hill Church of Christ and one day go to heaven.

Randy Travis - Shout to the Lord

“Google” around for a few minutes at the life of Randy Travis. How tragic! So talented – so famous – so messed up. He has had many ups and downs in his life, going all the way back to pulling his abusive father off of his mother when he was 10 years old and then running for his life from his father who threatened him with a loaded gun. Afraid to come out in the open, he hid in a cornfield with no food or water for two days. He started using and abusing drugs/alcohol in his adolescent years and addiction took him down as he wildly broke the law and was arrested numerous times.

His adult years were up and down as well. He would get on track but eventually would have more run-ins with the law. Through all of that Randy Travis had a deep spiritual side that was convoluted because of chemicals, triggered or aided by his terrible childhood. Travis has recorded many old church songs with his magical voice. A few years ago he suffered a terrible stroke and his physical life was permanently altered for the worse. Looking at the photos will make you very sad.

The “saving grace” through all of Randy Travis’ lawless, drunken experiences is that he turned his life back over to the LORD. The good news is that God forgives people like Randy Travis – and you and me. He even accepts us back into His presence and allows us to praise Him. We can shout to the Lord with gladness, we can sing with joyful singing, we can enter His gates (be in His loving, saving presence), and we can claim that we belong to Him. All of this is made miraculously possible because of Jesus Christ our LORD and Savior.

Praise God we don’t have to hang our heads low in shame now. Rejoice that we won’t have to sit on the back pew in heaven; rather, we can shout to the LORD. We don’t deserve it, but God loves to save sinners who bow before Him and acknowledge Him for who He really is.

I Hope Yu Dance

My prayer is that God bless you with a great rest of the week close to Jesus.

*I hope Jesus is the single most important person in your life.

*I hope the goal of your life is to live for Jesus and seek to please God in all respects (Colossians 1:10).

*I hope you repent of your sins daily and ask God to forgive you of your sins every day, and especially that you approach the throne of grace with confidence (Hebrews 4:14-16).

*I hope you seek to be holy as God is holy (I Peter 1:16).

*I hope you respond to troubles in your life with faithful perseverance.

*I hope you make every effort to love and value everyone with who you come in contact.

*I pray you make your life about serving others as Jesus served you on the cross. That means serving and blessing husband, wife, children, parents, grandparents, coworkers, neighbors, friends, strangers, every life counts as worthy of your Christ-like servitude.

*I hope you pray for God to open doors for you to share Jesus with others in wisdom and grace and love (Colossians 4:2-6).

*I hope heaven is your goal and by the grace of God you reach that goal as you walk by faith through this life right into eternity. I hope you “spiritually dance”.

Hold Me

Good Morning – Or is it? Heat! Health! Finances! People! Lots of people, places and things with which to deal.

What are we to do? How should we feel? Down, depressed and dejected? NOPE! God’s got it! He’s holding us right now as we walk by faith. I love the way He holds me(and you).

We can have joy and peace because our God is taking care of us EVEN in difficult times. So rejoice today.

Day By Day

This world is a tough place in which to live. We all have struggles (financial woes, physical ailments, family issues, etc. etc. etc.). It’s hard not to live in a state of panic because who knows where things are going tomorrow and the day after that! We end up caught up in all the troubles of our life as we look into the future – all those negative possibilities that can happen.

But the Lord wants us to take life one day at a time. Jesus wants us to trust Him to be in charge of the future. Our “job” is to live a life of faith one day at a time instead of trying to control everything. Plus, whoever changed anything by being anxious. The problem is it is just tough not to worry.

The apostle Paul writes from prison, “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:4-7).

Fantastic Friday

Is it a fantastic/fabulous Friday or what! All the negative news around us and yet we will rejoice and have joy on a beautiful day close to Jesus. This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Oh, we can find many reasons to be depressed, upset and worried but why should we when it’s a beautiful day for the children of God. Read Psalm 118 (especially 118:24) – Then listen to Beautiful Day by one of the purest, prettiest voices out there, Jamie Grace. Enjoy a beautiful day…don’t forget!

Even If

A true statement: Any spiritual wimp can praise God and be faithful when everything is going great in life. The challenge of faith is whether or not we can be faithful when we are hit with tough times in life.

Even the righteous sufferer in Psalm 22 cries out to God, “My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Far from my deliverance are the words of my groaning”. Because David knows deep down that God is good and God is love he doesn’t stay in that mindset but rather he writes, “I will proclaim Your name to my brothers; In the midst of the assembly I will praise You. You who fear the Lord, praise Him; All you descendants of Jacob, glorify Him, And stand in awe of Him, all you descendants of Israel. For He has not despised nor scorned the suffering of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from him; But when he cried to Him for help, He heard”.

We do NOT know why bad things happen to God’s people; however, we do know who God is. He is a God who loves us beyond words. He is the Lord of heaven and earth with all power. Therefore, we stay faithful to Him so that one day we will be with Him in the new heavens and new earth where there is no pain, suffering, depression, anxiety, or even death.

What Kind of God Is This Anyway?

Why doesn’t God stop Parkinson’s, cancer, and all other diseases? Maybe He isn’t as powerful or as loving as Christians claim He is?

Why, you and I are such good people, that I bet if we were God, we would put a stop to all the issues of life, wouldn’t we? We’d save this old world. Perhaps we are better people than God is as a god!
