Today we reflected on Jesus' words: “I desire mercy, not sacrifice.”

Jesus calls Matthew and welcomes those others reject, reminding us that God's grace comes first. We don't earn God's love—we receive it and share it with others.

The Gospel invites us to follow Jesus, trust in mercy, and make room at the table for all whom God loves.

Hoy reflexionamos sobre las palabras de Jesús: «Misericordia quiero y no sacrificio».

Jesús llama a Mateo y acoge a aquellos a quienes otros rechazan, recordándonos que la gracia de Dios es lo primero. No nos ganamos el amor de Dios: lo recibimos y lo compartimos con los demás.

El Evangelio nos invita a seguir a Jesús, a confiar en la misericordia y a hacer espacio en la mesa para todos aquellos a quienes Dios ama.

The ELCA has received a $1.2 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. through its initiative Hope After the Storm: Capacity Building for Faith-Based Disaster Relief Organizations.

The grant will enable Lutheran Disaster Response to strengthen its capacity to support communities through sustained, long-term recovery.

LDR’s work — in both domestic and international settings — is focused on its commitment to accompany communities through the full recovery process, remaining long after a disaster occurs.

Through this grant, LDR will strengthen its work in domestic settings by focusing on two areas that are essential to sustaining its long-term approach to disaster recovery: expanding its emotional and spiritual care capacity and strengthening sustainable donor engagement for long-term recovery needs.
