Today's CliffHouse Food Distribution Thursday was super-special in several ways. First of all--every Thursday morning Jenny L. Ingram and I take the trailer to our North Texas Food Bank partner and get a load of food pallets, come back to CliffHouse and unload, and our ministry partner, Griselda, is there by then and the sorting, re-boxing, and eventually passing out of boxes begins--with 10-15 servant-hearted volunteers there by that time. But, today as our trailer was being loaded with awesome food items--the manager at the warehouse asked if we wanted another trailer load--of milk, cheese, veggies, eggs, yogurt, can-goods, etc--to which we said 'YES!'. So, we hurried back to CliffHouse, unloaded the trailer, and I headed back to the warehouse by myself--excited to have so much awesome food. But--a concern came to me about what if we didn't have that many people come for food--what would we do with the extra (twice as much as usual)--especially the cold stuff. We have three regular fridges and one regular freezer--and we usually fill them all up with a normal 1-trailer load day. This would be a two trailer load day. But--really grateful for two loads of good nutritious food. You will have to trust me on this next part--on my way back for the second load I get a call, but no ID--which I normally don't answer. However, since it was from our hometown--Waco, I reluctantly took it. The caller identified himself, verified that he had the correct CliffHouse--then proceeded to tell me that his Sunday School class heard about our need of a large commercial refrigerator--and their class was going to provide that for CliffHouse. Yes-truth! So--I pick up our second trailer load, make it back to CliffHouse--see a line of people all the way to the alley and work my way into the parking spot and unload. Some of the men waiting in line for food stepped in and helped me get the pallets off the truck by hooking a chain to the ones the tractor forks couldn't reach and dragging them back--while they also kept people clear of the tractor and heavy pallets being moved around. For the rest of the day people kept coming--perhaps the largest crowd so far--440+ food boxes distributed. So--how did God know that today would be a great 'two trailer load' day? And--how cool of Him to have someone call right in the middle of going after the second load while I was wondering about cold storage--to say that need was taken care of. God so loves to make us smile and confirm His pleasure of people serving others. The people loved the abundance of great food. The 'cheese rounds' weighed about 10 lbs each. They were able to take as much milk, eggs, cheese, yogurt, etc as they wanted. Jenny, Griselda, and their incredible helpers were absolutely worn out--but--they realize the blessing of being Jesus' hands, feet, voice, and arms of love as they passed out highly nutritious food, hugs, smiles, encouragement, and love. Yeah--I think it is what Jesus would do. (Tap the Ring image)
