Something is always shaping you. Your neighborhood, your habits, your screen time, your fears. The question was never whether you would be formed -- only what is doing the forming.

This week, we explored Romans 12:1-8, where Paul calls us not to be conformed to this age but to be transformed from within. The mold does not feel like a mold when you are inside of it. It just feels like your life.

That is why we gather. Not to consume a spiritual experience, but to practice a different way of being human together -- singing songs we did not choose, sitting beside people no algorithm would place next to us, and giving generously in a world obsessed with scarcity.

Transformation is not God making you into something else. It is God revealing the image of God already within you.

FUMC friends - as you travel to church this Sunday, and typically use I-30, please look at this map!!

DALLAS - Weather permitting, all lanes of east and westbound I-30 will be closed between the I-35E and I-45/US 75 interchanges from 10 p.m. Saturday, October 24 to 5 a.m. Monday, October 26 as part of the ongoing I-30 Canyon corridor improvement project.

•A signed detour will be in place to use the SH 366/Woodall Rodgers Freeway as an alternate east-west connection between I-35E and I-45/US 75 during this time. Other alternate routes may result in increased travel distance.
•Significant delays can be expected; avoid unnecessary travel in the area if possible. Plan ahead for extra travel time and be alert to slower or stopped traffic.

The following traffic impacts are also scheduled during this time and are weather permitting:
•All lanes of Botham Jean/Lamar Boulevard will be closed and detoured at I-30 through late 2027.
•Griffin Boulevard remains narrowed to one lane in each direction at I-30 through early 2028.

As a reminder, the following closures remain in place as part of this project and are weather permitting:
•All lanes of Cesar Chavez Boulevard are closed and detoured at I-30 through late 2028.
•All lanes of Cadiz Street are closed and detoured at I-30. It will be rebuilt on a new alignment and reopen later in the project.
•All lanes of Akard Street are closed and detoured at I-30 through summer 2028.
•Good Latimer Expressway is narrowed to one lane in each direction at I-30 through early 2028.

What does it truly mean to fast, to worship, to be the church? Isaiah 58:6-7 challenges us with a radical vision -- loosing bonds of injustice, sharing bread with the hungry, and sheltering those without a home.

This Sunday, Rev. Phil Dieke reminded us that personal piety and social holiness are not two separate things. As John Wesley taught, there is no personal holiness apart from social holiness. Loving God and loving your neighbor are one and the same.

The church has a choice to make. We can be known for who we exclude, or we can be known for how we show up -- for the hungry, the unhoused, the afflicted. The invitation is not guilt. It is action.

"If you offer your food to the hungry and satisfy the needs of the afflicted, then your light shall rise in the darkness." -- Isaiah 58:10
