Projection is demonic. In psychology, projection is when someone unconsciously attributes their own feelings, sins, or struggles to another person. Spiritually, projection operates as a strategy of the enemy to deflect accountability and sow confusion.
Instead of confronting sin or allowing the Holy Spirit to convict fully, the spirit of accusation pushes the blame or finds a reason for blame and pushes it onto someone else (Revelation 12:10 calls Satan โthe accuser of the brethrenโ).
Instead of humbly receiving correction alone, the enemy pushes the person to drag someone else into it so the focus shifts off their sin. Thatโs projection working hand-in-hand with pride.
When projection and accusation are at work, if the innocent person shows any emotion (hurt, tears, frustration, even righteous anger), the one under correction can twist it again by saying, โSee? Thatโs a manifestationโฆ you need deliverance,โ or labeling them as โemotionally unstable.โ
Deliverance can become an unintentional mockery. True deliverance is freedom through Christ (John 8:36), not weaponized accusations to silence someoneโs response.
This is spiritual gaslighting โ a demonic tactic that invalidates real emotion. God gave us emotions as signals. Jesus Himself wept (John 11:35) and grew angry at sin (Mark 3:5).
Feeling emotion is not instability if they are submitted fully in Christ first. Tears are not a sign of being emotionally unstable. Tears partnered with sin is!!!! The majority of the time they'll be questioning the other personโs wholeness or spiritual standing while providing grace for their own.
This strategy I have seen time and time again and didn't recognize what was happening until the Spirit of the Lord ministered to me after being consecrated.
Itโs a very crafty strategy that will confuse you in the moment and have you questioning your identity. When it's revealed, pray and cover your mind but also pray for the individual's healing and deliverance. The enemy's plans for that person are to keep them stagnant and in repeated cycles where seeds of unforgiveness multiply rapidly.
Show me a person who projects Iโll show you someone who battles with pride, needs severe emotional healing, and struggles with forgiving themselves and others.
