Today, the Office of Evangelization, Catechesis, and Family Life, in collaboration with the Augustine Institute, hosted The Great Commission Parish Day of Formation for ministry leaders.

We were blessed with an incredible turnout—welcoming over 100 ministry leaders from across our diocese, as well as our sister dioceses of Fort Worth, Tyler, and Lubbock.

Grateful for a day filled with faith, fellowship, and formation as we continue to grow together in mission 🙏🙏🙏

Last night, we concluded three training sessions on Family and Marriage at St. Cecilia Parish in the Diocese of Dallas.

I am grateful to the Director of Catholic Social Ministries, Dr. Juan Rendón, for the invitation and for this wonderful collaboration. I have fond memories of the wonderful catechists and staff of St. Cecilia, whose service and dedication were a true testament to their faith.

The topics covered were:
The family as the vital cell of society
The family in God's plan
Marriage: The foundation and sacrament of the family.

This weekend we began the pre-marital preparation for the couples who will soon receive the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony.

We thank Deacon Rubén and his wife Evangelina Vargas, along with their team from Sacred Heart of Parish in Rowlett, for leading the sessions with such dedication and commitment.

Here I am with my Director, Juan Carlos Moreno, welcoming the couples.

It was undoubtedly a very enriching weekend, and very timely as we begin National Marriage Week.

I ask that you offer a prayer for these couples, for our presenters, and for all married couples. 🙏🙏🙏

Today, the Office of Evangelization, Catechesis and Family Life in collaboration with World Wide Marriage Encounter, is honored to host an Enrichment Sponsor Couple Retreat for the devoted couples who help prepare engaged couples for the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony. This retreat is a special time for reflection, renewal, and fellowship—an opportunity for these generous servants to fill their own cups as they accompany and guide others on the path toward lifelong commitment.

We ask you to lift them up in prayer. May the Holy Spirit continue to inspire, strengthen, and guide them in this beautiful ministry, so that God’s love may continue to shine through their work with every couple they serve.

We are especially grateful to St. Monica's Catholic Church for graciously hosting us. This gathering has been made possible through the generous support of the Bishop’s Appeal, whose contributions help strengthen and sustain ministries like this retreat.

The Newlywed Mass celebrated by our own Bishop Edward J. Burns was absolutely beautiful. This is one of the most meaningful events we host each year—now in its seventh year—to honor couples in their first year of marriage, reminding them that the Church and faith community are here to support them and accompany them as they embark on a lifetime together.

After Mass, the couples were serenaded by Mariachis in the Grand Salon, led by Music Director César Anguiano. Following the serenata, the celebration continued with delicious hors d'oeuvres provided by Cinco Panes Catering, along with wedding cake and gelato enjoyed to the sounds of a jazz trio led by Mr. Jonathan Fisher.

Throughout the evening, couples were also able to visit with representatives from a variety of organizations, including those offering financial guidance, natural family planning resources, Catholic Charities services, faith-based pilgrimages, counseling, marriage enrichment programs, publishing resources, and so much more. All of this is done to accompany them and show how deeply we care and how present we are for them in every stage of life. Because it’s not only about getting them to the altar, but walking with them beyond it.

It is an honor and a privilege to serve the newly married couples of the Diocese of Dallas in such a special and meaningful way. Please continue lifting them up in prayer so that they may remain joyful and always united in the love of Christ as they live out their vocation.

Rooted in the spirit of Jubilee, this conference calls us to offer hope and restoration—not only for survivors but also for those who have caused harm and now seek genuine healing. By promoting local and spiritual resources, we affirm that transformation is possible when accountability is paired with compassion.
