Here Goes,
Over this past year, I’ve thought hundreds of times about what I can share about this tragedy that has shaped the trajectory of our lives. What can I give?
That’s the only thing I can do; give
In the ICU, days and minutes and weeks blur into one really bad dream. There was however, one part of my day that woke me up. When I would invite the nurse, doctor or therapist to sit, to share, to ask about their day and then to give a penny to Tzedakah. I’d see their smile inch its’ way up to their eyes at the idea of it. “Can we give even more?”
This made me feel almost human! All of the sudden I could focus on the sun outside my window, my wonderful family around me, the air that filled my lungs and the strength that Hashem has given me. The act of giving saved me.
Giving is what makes us human. I think we’ve gotten quite used to taking.
When we started to write this Sefer Torah for the children of Dallas, we knew one thing. This everlasting bond of the Jewish People was for this entire city. For the bar mitzvah boy filled with excitement at his perfectly practiced Parsha, for the new baby girl named on an early morning, for the dancing feet on Simchat Torah.
So, we give to you, our friends and family, an opportunity to take part in a Torah in honor of the strongest person I know, my son Chaim Meyer.
Join us with song, with dance and give to your children the everlasting gift, the gift of the Torah.
