Celebrating the Feast of Shavuot & Communion
Well, we finished the book of Revelation last Friday, and what an amazing teaching series it was. Many thanks to Daniel for the many hours of study and preparation he put in to give us a thorough verse by verse study in this very challenging prophetic book. This Friday we will be celebrating the Feast of Shavuot, the Feast of "Weeks". It is called the Feast of Weeks because it is celebrated seven weeks plus one day (50 days) from our last celebration which was the Feast of "Firstfruits"; which took place on the 2nd day of Passover - the 16th of Nisan. Shavuot is called the second "firstfruits" because on this day the firstfruits of the wheat harvest would be offered by Israel to the Lord. Shavuot is also called the season of the giving of the Law because of a more recent emphasis that the Law was given to Israel on Shavuot. For believers, Shavuot has great significance because the Holy Spirit was "poured out" upon Messiah's disciples, empowering them to share the good news of the gospel message of salvation during this feast. Beginning in Judea and Samaria, the gospel would now be spread to "the remotest part of the earth" (Acts1:8). Historically, this would be a Shavuot that would change the world, as the gospel has brought about a "spiritual harvest" of countless millions since that time; a fulfilling of Messiah's great commission that continues to this very day. So come join us this Friday evening for Shabbat service as we celebrate and learn about "the Shavuot that changed the world", as well as enjoy the customs and traditions associated with this feast. We invite you to bring dairy foods, fruits, nuts, or other sweet things for our special Shavuot oneg.
Our services will begin at 7:30 P.M. We will have wonderful worship, a Shavuot introduction, a special message, and we will take Communion together this evening. We will end the night with warm food and fellowship at the close of our services. I believe a good time will be had by all, so come join us for the experience. See you there.

Other News & Notes:
Pre-Service Prayer Time – Every Friday evening, 6:45-7:25pm. We believe that prayer is foundational to any ministry. We meet in the Youth room, the same room where we have our Oneg.
Shavuot Service – Fri, May 22nd, 7:30pm - Shavuot, also called the Feast of Weeks, is a harvest festival. Traditionally, the Jewish people commemorate this as the time when Moses received the Ten Commandments at Mount Sinai. The word Shavuot means weeks, and the festival of Shavuot marks the completion of the seven-week counting period between Passover and Shavuot. It is one of the three Biblical pilgrimage festivals where the Jewish people were commanded to go up to Jerusalem and marks the conclusion of the Counting of the Omer, which began on the 2nd day of Passover. In the New Covenant, this is the time in the book of Acts where there was a great spiritual harvest when the Holy Spirit was given to those believers who were gathered with Peter in Jerusalem, also known as Pentecost. It is traditional to eat dairy foods during this feast. The Torah is likened to milk, as the verse says, “Like honey and milk [the Torah] lies under your tongue” (Song of Songs 4:11). Another tradition is to read the Book of Ruth as the setting for Ruth is the barley harvest time. Shavu’ot is one of the times that we take Communion together as a congregation. *** Please bring dairy foods, fruits or nuts or other sweets for our special Shavuot oneg.
