It is with a heavy heart and a great deal of sadness that we inform you of the passing of our church mother, friend, servant, and educator, Mrs. Lillie Brown. Her brilliant artistic talents—ranging from artwork, singing, dancing, and playing the piano to decorating—were gifts she shared generously with everyone around her.
Mrs. Brown served her community faithfully through her beloved church, Leath Street Missionary Baptist Church, where she held the esteemed role of First Lady Emeritus. Her service extended far beyond the church walls and faith community, including her work with the American Red Cross, AARP, Cliff View Church of Christ Pantry, her cherished sisterhood in Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, and many other causes/organizations.
A proud 1965 graduate of Bishop College, she later earned her Master’s in Education from Texas Woman’s University. As an educator, she poured into children and families with unwavering dedication. She served the Hamilton Park community as a substitute teacher and later blessed the West Dallas community as a teacher at George Washington Carver Elementary School, where she remained until her retirement in 1994.
Her love and passion for music, service, and education warmed hearts and uplifted countless families. Her contagious smile, gentle spirit, and genuine affection will be deeply missed. She was an amazing mother, grandmother—“Granny”—aunt, a true and loyal friend. We will miss her dearly.
