What a weekend at Faithology atCamp Glisson in Dahlonega!
We loaded up 31 of our incredible 3rd, 4th & 5th graders and 11 brave (some would say of questionable sanity) chaperones and headed to a retreat with more than 300 children from churches all over North Georgia.
There was Bible storytelling, swimming in the lake, science, crafts, singing, prayer, games, and enough activity to make a grown adult question every life choice that led them to voluntarily sleep in a bunkhouse with no air conditioning.
Our theme this weekend was water, and God took this very seriously, ordering in an epic storm on the night everyone arrived, ensuring everybody was thoroughly soaked, slightly terrified, and absolutely ready to jump in all the mud puddles.
But the most important thing these kids are bringing home isn’t a craft or tshirt or the ability to zip line into a lake while simultaneously screaming loud enough to break the sound barrier.
It’s the reminder that God loves them more than they may ever fully understand.
Our theme centered around the story of the woman at the well in the gospel of John and the promise of Living Water—God’s love and grace that never runs dry.
And our kids didn’t just hear about that love…they SHOWED it.
Before we left, our Johns Creek kids made 150 Yarn Monster pins to give to children they met at camp. We thought that would be plenty.
HAHAHAHAHAHA. (yeah we thought wrong)
By the FIRST AFTERNOON, we had given every single one away and were frantically trying to make more because apparently our children had decided they were running an international Yarn Monster distribution network.
Everywhere they went, they were looking for someone who needed a friend.
Our kids were kind. Empathetic. Compassionate. Quick to laugh. Some were VERY quick to throw a football. And they were determined to make sure that every child at camp was a friend they just hadn’t met yet.
So yes, we are currently functioning somewhere between exhausted and being legally classified as zombies. We are surviving on coffee, wondering where approximately 47 pairs of pajamas and shoes disappeared to, and questioning why bunk beds were ever invented.
But every sleepy eye, every lost sock, every exhausted chaperone, every Yarn Monster, every new friendship, every missing water bottle, every belly laugh and every moment of watching these kids love others so freely….worth it.
Every single moment.
And if anyone happens to see my very wet right black sneaker, please contact me immediately. I would like to be reunited with my belongings and begin the healing process.
