Ralph's Daily Inspiration: Better to Know

Even unwelcome information can be good, useful information. It’s better to know something that is difficult and inconvenient than not to know at all.

You may not be pleased about what’s going on. Yet when you’re certain about it, you have more options in dealing with that reality.

The bearer of bad news could very well be the bearer of valuable opportunity. The sooner you know about a problem, for example, the more time you have to address it.

Rather than getting angry or feeling sorry for yourself, put your time and energy to creative use. Acknowledge the situation, then work to fashion a positive way forward.

Often, what you don’t want to hear is precisely what you need to know. Consider your best response, and then begin to act on it.

When the truth is not preferable, it is still just as true, and just as powerful. Embrace the truth and align yourself with that power.

Today's Written Post: June 15, 2026: Prayer for Hope

Lord Jesus, while I pray with hope in life eternal, I ask for the grace to bring hope in this world, wherever I can.

Where there is violence, I hope for peace.

Where people are suffering the aftermath of storms, I hope for calmness in weather and in hearts.

For all who are suffering the loss of a loved one, of a job, of health, or any loss, please lead them to renewed hope found through Your love and grace. Amen.

Saint of the Day: Saint Albert Chmielowski (1845–1916)

He was a talented Polish artist who, in the late 19th century, gave up fame and success to dedicate his life to serving the poor, homeless, and forgotten.

After a deep conversion, he became known as Brother Albert and founded religious communities devoted to works of mercy. He believed Christians should “be as good as bread,” offering kindness, compassion, and Christ’s love to all in need.

His life remains a powerful witness to charity, humility, and service to the most vulnerable. Saint Albert Chmielowski is the patron saint of the homeless, the poor, and abandoned people.

The Cost of Discipleship: "Should anyone press you into service for one mile, go with him for two miles." Matthew 5:41

Jesus’ way of life goes against predictable human interactions. Just as the disciples learn the path of discipleship, Jesus reveals that discipleship is costly. Jesus’ call to offer the other cheek, to forgive one’s enemies and to endure mistreatment for his name’s sake goes above and beyond.

For our typical human interactions are marked often by envy, division and retaliation. And Jesus knows his disciples will be persecuted and even rejected for the sake of the Gospel, just as he was.

Jesus encourages his disciples, and us, to go beyond what is humanly possible to experience what is possible with the help of God’s grace! For only in our personal experience of God’s love and mercy can we, in turn, reveal God’s love and mercy to others.

Lord, grant me the grace to love as you loved, even those who demand more than I think I can give!

Ralph's Daily Inspiration The Power of Kindness

It’s easy, and very powerful, to be kind and courteous to those who are kind and courteous to you. Yet to experience the full power of your sincere courtesy and kindness, offer them to people who are careless and rude to you.

Rudeness is nearly impossible to maintain when it is met with courtesy. Carelessness and negativity will wither in the bright light of kindness and true forgiveness.

Sure, it is difficult to bring yourself to forgive those who are hurtful to you. But the thing is, forgiveness gives you the upper hand.

The way to stop the hurt is by refusing to participate in it. To effectively help yourself, offer genuine kindness to others.

By no means should you tolerate continued abuse. Yet there is no good reason to perpetuate that abuse.

Be the one who is strong, who stops the negativity. Put the power of kindness, courtesy and forgiveness to work for you and your world.

Ask for Grace: "At the sight of the crowds, his heart was moved with pity for them…" Matthew 9:36

The people in Jesus’ time “were troubled and abandoned, like sheep without a shepherd,” the Gospel tells us (v. 36), and Jesus felt pity for them. Today, two millennia later, we still see so many who are troubled and filled with anxiety, despairing of finding lasting happiness. Sometimes, it afflicts our young adults, but it can afflict our seniors as well.

The Lord’s response is not to scold or condemn. Rather, he is moved with pity. His heart reaches out to those who are suffering. And he sends help in the form of his Apostles to heal, to cure, to bring the message of salvation.

Who are we in this story? Are we the anxious and abandoned, or are we the bearers of the Good News? Perhaps we are a bit of both. We ask God at times for the grace to carry on, but we must also ask for the grace to share our witness with others.

Father, heal me of my fears, and let me be a witness of your love.
