This photo is not an ordinary picture. It is the most compassionate event of the 500-year-old Vaishnav tradition - the Mahasamadhi of Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and Namacharya Shri Haridas Thakur Ji.
In this picture, the bald-headed, saffron-clad saint is Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu himself, and the body lying in his lap is his most beloved disciple **Haridas Thakur Ji**. The people standing behind are devotees of Puri and the sea shore is below.

1. Who was Haridas Thakur?
Haridas Thakur Ji was born in a Muslim family, but since childhood he was the ultimate exponent of the "Hare Krishna" Mahamantra. He used to chant 3 lakh names every day, so Chaitanya Mahaprabhu called him "Namacharya". Kazi got him converted to Islam and made him chant codes in 22 markets, but he continued to chant names and went to samadhi and came back alive every time.
2. The final leela - in Puri:
When Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was residing in Jagannath Puri, Haridas Thakur used to sing bhajans every day in a hut by the sea. One day, he said to Mahaprabhu, "Lord, my leela is about to end. I want to renounce my body in front of you, and I want you to give me a sea bath with your own hands."
Mahaprabhu said, "Haridas, you are my heart."
3. The day of Mahasamadhi:
Haridas Thakur placed his head on the lap of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and, while listening to "Shri Krishna Chaitanya" from his mouth, gave up his breath.
Seeing this, Mahaprabhu became overwhelmed with love and started crying loudly. He himself brought Haridas Thakur's divine body to the seashore by placing it in his lap.
4. What is shown in this photo:
Mahaprabhu gave Haridas Thakur a sea bath with water from his hands, applied sandalwood paste, and gave his body a samadhi in the sand. This picture shows the moment when Mahaprabhu is pouring water from a pot, a devotee is washing his feet, and hundreds of devotees are standing behind him in their pots, crying.
After the samadhi, Mahaprabhu himself performed the Harinam Sankirtan at that place and distributed prasad to the devotees. Even today, the samadhi of Haridas Thakur Ji is near the Swargadwara of Puri, where the Chaitanya Mahaprabhu had given him samadhi with his own hands.
What does this leela mean?
Just like the Brahmavart Purana, this leela also tells how much God loves his devotees. In the story of Tulsi-Shankhchud, Shiva Ji gave samadhi, here God himself gave samadhi to his devotee.
The scriptures say - "By seeing the samadhi of Haridas Thakur Ji, the name and sin of thousands of births are destroyed."
