Everyone has heard of Jesus. The trouble is what people put after his name.

In Luke 9, the crowds guessed prophet. Peter said the Christ of God. Then Jesus told them what the Christ came to do: suffer, be rejected, be killed, and on the third day be raised. They wanted a king who would drive out Rome. He came to deal with their sin.

From Luke 9:18–27.

Everybody wants Jesus to be their Savior. Almost nobody wants him as Lord.

He was pierced for our transgressions and raised on the third day. He saves as Lord, and the heart that finally receives him that way is a heart he gave.

The disciples came back from their mission tired, and a crowd followed them into a desolate place.

Jesus taught them and healed them until the day wore away. Then his disciples did the math out loud. Five loaves. Two fish. Five thousand men. Send them home.

He sat the crowd down in groups of fifty, blessed the bread, broke it, and every person there ate until they were full. The leftovers filled twelve baskets, more than they started with.

From Luke 9:11–17.

If you have been quietly wondering whether any of this is true, there is a seat for you at GracePointe this Sunday.

They had just healed the sick and cast out demons in his name. By evening, they told him it couldn't be done.

Five loaves, two fish, five thousand hungry men, and the twelve forgot who was standing in front of them.

He fed every one of them anyway. What his people cannot produce, he provides, starting with the faith to trust him at all.

From Luke 9:11–17.

Everyone around Jesus kept asking the same thing. Who is this man?

The disciples asked it in the boat. Herod asked it from his palace, afraid a preacher he had killed was back. Luke 9 puts the question in front of you, too, and then it sends ordinary people out to carry the answer.

From Luke 9:1–10.

You keep asking what your life is for.

You were made to know God, and he gives that life freely in Christ.

Money, work, the next accomplishment. They promise to answer the question and they never do. The free gift you could never earn is the one thing that holds.

From Luke 9:1–10.

For anyone new to the area, or looking for a church that takes the Bible seriously.

GracePointe is a small Presbyterian congregation that gathers to worship God and sit under his Word. We hold to the historic Reformed faith, and we believe the good news that God rescues sinners through Jesus Christ is meant for ordinary people in ordinary weeks.

Join us Sunday at 10 am, 4888 Browns Bridge Rd. A Covenant Family of Hope.
