As we jump into Summer-mode we will be sharing a ‘Favorite Thing’ or ‘Tip for Success’ each Monday. We hope these tips encourage you through this busy month of May!
Today’s tip is from Ginny McCrary:
One of my favorite tips that I find helpful during this busy season is to pre-plan my day!
Most of us use a calendar of some sort, whether it’s your phone, a paper planner, or my personal favorite - the skylight. As moms, most of us take on the responsibility of managing said calendar. All the sporting events, appointments, work travel, family functions, and - if you have littles - all the end of the school year parties, programs, etc. The mental load is exhausting!
If you’re like me and aren’t in a season of life where you can have a rigid daily routine, or maybe just don’t have the personality for it (guilty too!), then give this a try. I’ve found that making time in the evening to intentionally sit down, look at the family calendar (and endless to do lists), plan with my husband how we’re going to take on the next day, and then pray over that plan can be so powerful in the full seasons!
I wake up already feeling productive and it allows my husband and I to communicate expectations when we’re not frazzled and rushing out the door with only 1 kid wearing underwear. You can make the plan as detailed or brief as you want it, write it out or type it in a note on your phone, and then focus on that plan. One day at a time! In praying over that plan, I always ask God to provide the energy and focus I need to execute, to limit the distractions around me, and to give me patience with myself if the whole days goes up in flames and nothing goes according to plan. Because that happens too! But stick with it and I promise you’ll feel more present in the chaos.
