On Saturday, 9/26, we will sponsor our third meal packing event with Rise Against Hunger from 10 - 12 p.m.

Rise Against Hunger is an international organization whose mission it to help underserved people worldwide achieve food security and resilience through nutrition, education and economic empowerment, fueled by a global movement of volunteers and partners. This event is done in with Calvin Presbyterian Church and the event will be hosted by them at 126 Angell Road. Ground level access is available.

There is no age requirement to volunteer. There are jobs you can do sitting down and others you can do standing up. If you're 4 or 104, you can help end hunger!

Last Sunday, as part of our ongoing partnership with MAE, we prepped, cooked, and served lunch to our neighbors in Woonsocket. For many who are homeless and/or food insecure, this meal may be the only one they get on the day. For us to participate in this ministry, a small crew of volunteers has to miss Sunday morning service in the sanctuary, but it is also one more reminder that there are people in need of sanctuary everywhere, and sometimes the most important sanctuary isn't inside four walls, but outside around a plastic picnic table. Wherever God's spirit is moving to feed our bellies and souls, God's church is there!

173 hot meals were served. That's 75 lbs. of BBQ chicken, 20 lbs. or pasta, 8 trays of garden salad, and 10 chopped watermelons! Thanks to our volunteers last week, and to the whole church for providing the necessary funds and prayers!

This week, 10 of our students, along with 4 adult advisors, are on retreat, sticking close to home by volunteering in Providence and staying in Narragansett. Yesterday, they painted a full 3 bedroom apartment and emptied out another 3 bedroom apartment at McAuley Village, while also assembling all sorts of toys. Part of McAuley Ministries, the Village offers safe, affordable, and supportive housing to mothers and their children. In many cases, those seeking help at McAuley Village have also been victims of domestic abuse. We were inspired by the courage of their residents and the compassion of their staff, and grateful for the chance to partner with them.

This past Sunday we celebrated the journey of 8 students through Confirmation this year. We say thank you to the many friends met and made along the way! As mementos, each student was gifted an empty soup bowl, purchased through the Empty Bowls initiative of the RI Food Bank, which works to alleviate hunger for all by building longer tables not higher walls. We pray these students will carry their bowls well. They themselves are bowls overflowing with the abundant goodness of God!

Due to the hard rain and winds being forecasted for this Saturday, our ELECTRONIC RECYCLING EVENT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED TO JUNE 13th from 9 - 12 p.m. Please help spread the word!
