iZōsh Maine is having its Spring Event on Sunday, April 12th at 3:00. iZosh is an organization for women helping women. We get together twice a year and fund microloans for women around the globe who are starting and running businesses to help support their families with housing, food and education for their children.

Before our April event, we are inviting you to a watch party of a documentary called “Living on One Dollar.”

The 56-minute film follows four college students who were intrigued with the phrase “living on one dollar” that was mentioned in an economics class one day and decided they’d try that in a small Mayan village in Guatemala. This "experiment" turned out to be a far better lesson than any lesson taught in a classroom.

The movie is followed by a brief talk on how this documentary ties in with the iZōsh mission of women supporting women who live in extreme poverty by providing microloans - a hand up and not a hand out. At the April Event, you will then experience how together … we CAN make a difference!

There are two showings of the movie:

The first showing is at Tuttle Road Community Church, 52 Tuttle Rd., Cumberland on Sunday, March 22nd at 2:30. All are welcome to the watch party - even the men - this time.

The other showing is specifically for Ocean View and Cumberland Crossing residents. It will be on Monday, March 30th at 2:30 at Ocean View. Sign-ups are requested through Activities for that showing. Contact Sally Dunning or email [email protected] for more info.

We hope you will join us and bring along anyone who might be intrigued about the film and our funny-sounding organization!

Join us as we begin the sacred season of Lent together on Ash Wednesday, February 18 at 7:00 pm.

This quiet and meaningful service will include prayer, music, reflection, and the imposition of ashes - an ancient ritual that reminds us of our shared humanity, our need for grace, and the hope of new beginnings.

Ash Wednesday invites us to pause, breathe deeply, and return to what matters most. Whether Lent is a familiar journey for you or something new, you are warmly welcome just as you are. Come and enter this season grounded in compassion, community, and the Good News that sustains us.

All are welcome

Want to be in community with other like-hearted and like-minded Portlanders to pray for, sing for, and show solidarity and support for your neighbors?

Join us on Wednesday, January 28th for the Weekly MultiFaith Prayer Vigil: A prayerful gathering of Solidarity and Support for our Immigrant Neighbors, ALL ICE DETAINEES and all caught up in a BROKEN SYSTEM & SITUATION.

This vigil IS an intentional spiritual gathering, not a protest. Led by rotating MultiFaith Leaders, during this vigil we gather in sacred silence, pray, sing and send compassion and loving energy to heal the hearts and divides of all caught up in the system of injustice and ICE, including those detained as well as those working within the system.

This vigil IS NOT a protest. This vigil does not make specific political statements. We are bringing spiritual intention to a complex and hurting system and the people within it during a complex time. Political/protest/divisive signs, chants, songs and language are not appropriate at the vigil. We do not share what we are against but rather what we are for.

All who feel connected to the intention of this gathering are welcome. We are comprised of many different faith backgrounds including Unitarian Universalist, Christian, Jewish, Quaker, Interfaith/Interspiritual and more. You will be invited to sing songs of peace and also to be in silent prayer which can take whatever form of “prayer” feels good for you.

The weekly vigil has been held at The Cumberland County Jail since late October. Because the Cumberland County Jail is no longer holding ICE detainees as well as other relevant factors, the Vigil is moving locations.

This Wednesday, January 28th the vigil will be held at Congress Square Park (the intersection of Congress St. & High St. in Portland, ME 04101). You can find all details here: tinyurl.com/pwm-vigil.

NOTE: the vigil will continue to iterate to meet the moment and locations may change so please check the website every week for updates.
