SEPTEMBER 7

WISE DECISIONS

Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding.
Proverbs 3:13

We are called to be wise in every decision of our lives. We need God’s wisdom in our business dealings, our health, our relationships, our parenting, our finances, and our relationship with Him. No area of life is beyond the need for wisdom, off-limits to God’s wisdom, or ignored by God’s Word. God’s wisdom can be readily applied to every decision or choice we make, every relationship we have, every emotion we feel, every action we take, every opinion we hold, and every idea or challenge we pursue.

SEPTEMBER 6

SAFE WITH THE SHEPHERD

I am the door of the sheep.… If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.
John 10:7

In this verse, Jesus was referring to the fact that in Bible times, shepherds slept with their sheep when the sheep spent the night in outdoor pens that were made of rocks. The shepherd would lie in the open doorway that allowed the sheep to enter the pen. With his very life, the shepherd would protect the sheep from any predators or thieves. Note that Jesus said that we are not only saved because Jesus stands between us and the enemy who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy us, but that Jesus, as our Shepherd, allows us to “find pasture.” That little two-word phrase means that a sheep has all of its needs for survival met fully.

OUR DAILY BREAD

Give us this day our daily bread.
Matthew 6:11

Jesus taught His disciples to pray, “Our Father in heaven … give us this day our daily bread.”
The concept of daily bread goes far beyond a loaf of whole wheat bread for physical nourishment. Bread is a term that refers to everything that is necessary for wholeness in life. It refers to the things we need physically, but also to the things we need mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.…
When you ask the Lord to give you your daily bread, you are also to mean, “Give me today what You know I need to carry out Your purposes for me on the earth. I trust You to meet all my needs.”

SEPTEMBER 4

ENCOURAGING OTHERS

If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.
John 21:22

The Lord has a plan for each of us, and it is our responsibility to live out that plan in obedience and faithfulness. What the Lord plans for another person’s life—and how that other person lives out God’s plan—is the business only of the Lord and that person. It is not our responsibility. We are to encourage and help others as they fulfill God’s plan in their lives, but we are not the creator, originator, manipulator, or policeman of that plan and purpose. God is fully capable of dealing with each person individually, and our role is to trust Him completely with our lives and with the lives of those we love.

SEPTEMBER 3

FAITH IS BELIEVING

As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him.
Colossians 2:6

Faith is believing that God will do as He has promised. Faith is not a power. It’s not something we are supposed to drum up inside ourselves. Faith is trusting that God will honor His promises. That is all there is to it.
Our part in the faith process is fairly simple. We are to go about our lives—making decisions, handling crises, raising our families, and so on—as if God is really going to do what He said He would do. That is what it means to walk by faith.…
The Holy Spirit dwells in you and is ready to go to work producing the character of Christ through you. All He needs is your faith.

SEPTEMBER 2

PRAISE AND FAITH

The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents of the righteous.
Psalm 118:15

Our petitions, thanksgiving, and praise must all be bathed by our faith. We must truly believe that God is capable and is in control of all things. We must truly believe that God desires our eternal good. We must truly believe that God is our help in time of need.
When we catch even a glimpse of who God is, what God is capable of doing, and how He desires to exert the full extent of His power, presence, and provision to help us, we can’t help but feel faith and hope welling up in us to produce an abiding peace.

WHOLE IN GOD’S EYES

Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God.
Psalm 143:10

Wholeness from God’s perspective is to be complete; to know with deep assurance that we are beloved by God with an everlasting, infinite, and unconditional love; to be able to move forward with boldness and confidence that we are God’s children; to claim God’s promises that we are victors through Christ Jesus over every negative situation and circumstance; and to be able to stand up to the enemy of our souls regardless of what the devil may throw at us.
Wholeness is the work that God does in us with a twofold purpose: that we might be sound in spirit, mind, and emotions, and that we might influence others to accept God’s love, forgiveness, and plan.

OVERFLOWING GENEROSITY
A faithful man will abound with blessings.
Proverbs 28:20
Show me a person who is overflowing in generosity to another person, and I’ll show you a person rich in friendships.
Show me a person who is extremely generous in the giving of her time to other people, and I’ll show you a person who always has people “there” for her in times of her need.
Show me a person who can’t give enough of himself to further the specific ministry calling that God has placed on his life, and I’ll show you a person who has a tremendous sense of purpose and fulfillment.
