In recognition of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' consecration of our nation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, our local bishop has decreed that the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart be transferred from Friday, June 12, to Sunday, June 14, in our diocese. Our community is united with our diocese in transferring the feast, which is our patronal feast, to this coming Sunday. May the Sacred Heart of Jesus lead us to the kind of sacrificial love that transforms the world.

On June 11, the U.S. Bishops will consecrate the United States of America to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In the Diocese of Birmingham, parishes will mark the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the weekend of June 13-14. Bishop Raica will celebrate Mass at the Cathedral of St. Paul on June 14 at 11 a.m., locally commemorating the national consecration. We pray for the United States of America, that as we observe the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, we may ever depend upon the God in Whom we trust, and that He will be pleased to grant a spiritual renewal to our land.

Our community in making our annual retreat this week. The monastery is filled with silence as we each engage in extra prayer and spiritual reading. We are receiving excellent retreat conferences from Abbot John Klassen of St. John's Abbey. Please keep us in your prayers this week. We are praying for you.

Sister Bernadette and Sister Elisabeth shopped for vegetables this morning at the Berlin Farmer's Market. We are grateful for our local Cullman County farmers! We will enjoy fresh produce in the coming week, straight from local soil and the work of our neighbor's hands.

Today, the Leadership Conference of Women Religious joins with others around the world in recognizing the first anniversary of the election of Pope Leo.

We give thanks for his compassionate leadership, his deeply pastoral approach, and his courageous public witness to the values at the heart of Catholic Social Teaching. Throughout this first year, Pope Leo has consistently called the church and the world to greater solidarity with those who are poor and marginalized, renewed care for our common home, and a deeper commitment to human dignity, peace, and justice.

We are grateful for the hope his ministry has inspired and for the ways he continues to invite all people into dialogue, encounter, and faithful action for the good of our global community.

May wisdom, courage, and compassion continue to guide him in the years ahead.
