A few weeks ago, Georgia took a few ladies to the Little Red River for a painting retreat.
There was the normal hiking, sharing food, and cozying beside the fire like every Heber House trip, but this time a bunch of paint slinging was added.
Tree studies
Portrait practice
And à la carte painting
Here’s a peek at the created beauty from that retreat 👀🎨

Sometimes I sit frozen in my yellow plaid chair in our den, yes sometimes I do. My mind whirls with “God is good all the time,” and yes I do believe he is. Yet pain and suffering, sadness and “unanswered” flood my den floor with waves of “why” as I sit frozen- waiting for the answer.
We all have unanswered prayers, we all have illness, sickness, hardship, and those threshold moments in our lives when one moment we are “ok -all aboard” and the next we are dog paddling in the water just trying to keep our heads up.
Sometimes these moments come in spurts. Those tough moments. And then other days they fire off like a 10 gun salute. Yet, God is Good all the time... yes, all the time God is good.
It would be easy to blame God for tough things, tough situations- yes that would be the easy route. The real work, worth, and JOY of a life beautifully lived happens when we as a community carry it together- hold each other up, encourage, listen, love unconditionally, and wait for answers united in prayer. This is the part where “God is good all the time“ comes in. God created us humans for himself and for each other. Kind of a bit like a Trinitarian relationship. Those we lift up, God... and of course, us.
Each day that I live on this Earth is a mixture of the good the bad and often the ugly. They come in spurts, this jumbled bag of emotions and moments.
Ah, but my community of Saints called friends navigate with me... as I am gifted the privilege of journeying alongside them.

Nobody said life is going to be easy, but oh my goodness Life is such a gift.
If I had not been gifted Life, I would have never had the privilege of loving Humans!
God is Good, all the time
Yes
All the time God is good!

Go love your humans...

I think we all have a little voice inside of us that questions our life choices as we live into old- hood!
Maybe at some point in the life string (we all drag behind us) that marks birth to death we wonder about our choices, and how many notches on the string are left to live out new ones.
Time ticks by, we grow older, we question... And then we question the questions.
Yesterday I had the privilege of spending a day with a group of ladies from Faith Lutheran Church. We met in Dad and Benita’s barn with the doors flung wide open to reveal nature and peace at its finest. We all gifted ourselves a day to study Ecclesiastes 3-you know the “there is a time for” scripture!
We looked deep within and dissected our hearts and minds after an awkward Covid year. We contemplated the tough life questions as we paused in Holy reverence to God who is in control of all.
I came home exhausted and hungry... Ate take out Chinese by the campfire in a long flowy dress my sister made me wear to the
retreat. I sat there a bit numb yet fully alive, the campfire smoke clouded my view and then in a moments shift - all was clear!

There’s a Right Time for Everything.
There’s an opportune time to do things, a right time for everything on the earth:
A right time for birth and another for death,
A right time to plant and another to reap,
A right time to kill and another to heal,
A right time to destroy and another to construct,
A right time to cry and another to laugh,
A right time to lament and another to cheer,
A right time to make love and another to abstain,
A right time to embrace and another to part,
A right time to search and another to count your losses,
A right time to hold on and another to let go,
A right time to rip out and another to mend,
A right time to shut up and another to speak up,
A right time to love and another to hate,
A right time to wage war and another to make peace.

Did you know Easter is 50 days long? After 40+ days of Lent, doesn’t it make sense that we should celebrate for just as long? There is so much more celebrating to do!

G O O D F R I D A Y

Almighty God, we pray you graciously to behold this your family, for whom our Lord Jesus Christ was willing to be betrayed, and given into the hands of sinners, and to suffer death upon the cross; who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

A few years ago we put together an interactive Stations of the Cross for our church. helped write the liturgy which has since been re-worked for at home use.

M A U N D Y

Tonight we remember the commandment Jesus gave at the last supper:

"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another" (John 13:34).

Jesus washed the disciples feet, broke bread with his friends, and told them to remember. His body was broken for us, his blood spilled.

Tonight we remember.

Almighty Father, whose dear Son, on the night before he suffered, instituted the Sacrament of his Body and Blood:
Mercifully grant that we may receive it thankfully in remembrance of Jesus Christ our Lord, who in these holy
mysteries gives us a pledge of eternal life; and who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

"THE POET THINKS ABOUT THE DONKEY”BY MARY OLIVER ✨

On the outskirts of Jerusalem
the donkey waited.
Not especially brave, or filled with understanding,
he stood and waited.

How horses, turned out into the meadow,
leap with delight!
How doves, released from their cages,
clatter away, splashed with sunlight.

But the donkey, tied to a tree as usual, waited.
Then he let himself be led away.
Then he let the stranger mount.

Never had he seen such crowds!
And I wonder if he at all imagined what was to happen.
Still, he was what he had always been: small, dark, obedient.

I hope, finally, he felt brave.
I hope, finally, he loved the man who rode so lightly upon him,
as he lifted one dusty hoof and stepped, as he had to, forward.

The beginning of Holy Week.
Today we celebrate Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest!

Two years ago we took a group of ladies to Sacred Heart Monastery for a silent retreat. This video gives a glimpse into the simple and overwhelming beauty we experienced there ✨

Sister Kathleen welcomed us with open arms and taught us about the springtime pilgrimage of Lent. We walked the sacred grounds, ate together during the awkward but meaningful mealtimes, and prayed at the thresholds of the day with the sisters: lauds and vespers.
