Today the Church celebrates the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Her nativity reminds us of God's loving plan of salvation and the hope that entered the world through her. May we follow Mary's example of faith and trust each day. Happy Birthday, Blessed Mother!

In this week’s Gospel, Peter moves from acknowledging Jesus as “the Christ, the Son of the living God” — a truth revealed by the Father — to thinking according to human expectations.

How quickly can we turn from seeking God’s will to following our own inclinations?

Jesus calls us to deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow him. His saving mission leads through suffering and death – but also to the promised resurrection!

May we ask the Holy Spirit to inspire and guide us to follow God’s will today.

It’s an important question. Jesus first asks who the crowds say He is. Then He turns to the disciples. Simon Peter - through the inspiration of the heavenly Father - identifies Jesus as “the Christ, the Son of the living God.” He is the divine Son of God. Who is Jesus to you?

Jesus then sets Peter as the foundation of the Church and to him Jesus gives the “keys of the kingdom of heaven.” How might God be calling you to help establish the Kingdom of Heaven today?

Ask for the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to guide you today.
