To all members and friends of the Cuba United Methodist Church,

What a success! CUMC has now enjoyed our 150th Anniversary Celebration weekend and the event is getting rave reviews!

On behalf of the 150th Team, I want to extend my heartfelt thank you for your commitments to making this event so successful. It was the vision of the Team to inform, entertain, and provide a ministry not only for our congregation, but our community as well. None of this could have happened without the support and contributions of our church family and friends.

During this celebratory year, we accomplished so much. We established a blessing ministry. Researched and shared the history of our church and its congregants. Entertained folks with both a trivia and movie night. Created floats and participated in several parades. Ate great food. A favorite for me was the creation of commemorative items to be used as fundraisers by involving anyone who wanted to participate. You must admit the cookbook, notecards and poster are one-of-a-kind items.

None of this would have been possible without the participation of everyone at CUMC! So, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU! I hope the weekend was as special to you as it was to myself and the 150th Team of Willa, Peggy, Ramona, Travis, Joyce B, Leslie, Pat, Mandy, Jacob, Joyce S, Pastor Todd, Becky N, Jill, and Kaysie. I could not have asked for a better group of folks to lead. They were amazing!!

Now to look towards our 175th in 2047! Jacob Sherrill, I am officially passing the torch!

With sincerest thanks,

Jenny

On Memorial Day we honor CUMC’s Gold Star Boys; Larry Grant, Rex Powell and Ralph Fishwick. During WWII the church kept a Service Honor Roll in the sanctuary which listed the names of all members serving. Special services were held for each of these men at which time a ⭐️ was placed by their name.

Today the Sesquicentennial team unveiled our first commemorative item. This print was created by CUMC member and artist Colin Shaw. Colin grew up in the church and spoke today of how some of his childhood memories made their way into this piece. The images depict our 150 year journey from worshiping outside in the Grove to our church buildings all within blocks of each other along Washington Street. The 16"x20" prints are available for $20.00, with all proceeds going towards special events throughout the year. If you'd like one mailed to you, we hope to have that option sorted out in a few days.

FYI, this image appears more ‘neon ish’ in the green color than it truly is.
