In Ephesians 6:11-12 we read the Apostle Paul’s instructions to the church at Ephesus and it applies to us today. He wrote, “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (NKJV).
We need to understand that Satan’s attacks against us are not random but are well thought out. Some of these attacks are right in our face, like the attacks against Job and Jesus. But at other times he will attack through deception like when he tempted Eve, or when he comes as an angel of light and his demons as ministers of righteousness (see 2 Corinthians 11:14-15) Jesus calls Satan a thief and tells us what his plan is. He said, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy (John 10:10a).
Maybe I can put it like this, Satan comes to steal our peace, kill our future, and destroy our hope. How do we defeat Satan’s strategies? By keeping our eyes on Jesus and making sure we have put on the FULL armor of God. We are the most vulnerable where we are unprotected. In the second part of John 10:10 Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” We are also told that whoever believes in Jesus will have eternal life (John 3:16). Jesus also tells us to come to Him with what we’re going through, and He will give us peace (Matthew 11:28-30.) And the writer of Hebrews tells us to keep our focus on Jesus who is the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). What we always need to keep in mind is that in the end, Satan loses, and we win and we are more than conquerors though Him Who loves us! Romans 5:8 says, “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Since He died for us, we should live for Him. It begins with having a personal relationship with Him. Have you accepted Jesus as your personal Savior? If not, today is the day to do so.
