School store raises money for Children’s Hospital

By Patrick Browne
CRYSTAL FALLS - Cale Campbell, a kindergartner
at Forest Park School, is a one of a kind super
hero who is fighting for his health. The son of
Ashley and Cody Campbell, Cale has been on a
long journey this year as he undergoes multiple
medical treatments which have forced him to
live at the hospital in order to reduce the risk
of infection.

The courageous kindergartner began his journey
Dec. 9 when his parents noticed unusual bruising
and contacted the family doctor. The doctor
ordered tests and the results were concerning.
A diagnosis of pancytopenia saw him fast
tracked to St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay,
Wisconsin, where he was admitted Dec. 14. For
the past four months he has made his home first
at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay and most
recently Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin.

The trek has been long, but the love of the Iron
County Community has seen him supported by
thousands of facebook users, an entire school,
and recently a group of third graders who
organized a sale of homemade goods to raise
money for Children’s Hospital.

Moved by their friend’s plight, a team of six girls
decided it was time to do what they could to help.
Asked whose idea it was for the sale, the girls
quickly gave credit to Laine (Peterson), and then
shared, “And then we all decided to join in.”

After speaking with their teachers and the
principal, the team handled everything from
creating items to sell, to making signs, setting
prices and staffing the sale. Their efforts
focused on creating bookmarks, homemade
stickers, key chains, bracelets, squishes and
slime. The ‘store’ officially opened at 8 a.m.
April 28 and quickly saw a line extending
down the hall.

“We thought it would be a really good
cause,” shared Anna (Robles). “We’re hoping
to make a lot of money. We did the math
and if we sell all the squishies we can make
$58,” commented Rebecca. Vera (Anderson)
excitedly interjected, “I think we could even
make $100!”

Asked what motivated their efforts, Reagan
(Rivard) summed it up perfectly. “We really
just wanted to help Cale and people who
need it.”

While it is clear they have helped, they have
also sent the message that the school’s
courageous kindergartener is important to
them and they are looking forward to having
him back in school.

“For Cale and all the kids at the Children’s
Hospital,” Laine Peterson shared, “Stay strong!”

Reach out to the church office for more information.

There's only three days left to register for our Daily Bread Youth Retreat! This retreat will take place April 24th-25th and is open to all current 3rd-6th graders and their adult leaders. You don't want to miss this!

This one-night retreat features an action-packed schedule with camp favorites galore: camp songs and games, campfire worship, Bible activities, arts 'n' crafts, and more! Together we'll learn about The Lord's Prayer through hands-on activities.

Our youth retreats also include an adult workshop component on Saturday morning. We will be joined by Community Service Trooper Tom Kinnunen, who will share a presentation about the potential dangers of social media and how to navigate them.

Registration closes Friday, 4/17 at 11:59 pm CT! To learn more about the retreat and to find the registration page, follow this link: https://fortunelake.org/event/daily-bread-youth-retreat-for-grades-3-6/
