I’m no chef, but I do know that when I’m whipping up a fancy feast of Kraft Mac ‘n Cheese, I best stir the pot to keep those little buggers from stickin’ to the bottom.
YUP.
Cuz sometimes the pot needs stirring.
…In order to distribute the heat.
…In order to incorporate all the ingredients.
…In order to keep things from sticking to the bottom because who the heck wants to be stuck at the bottom AMEN?!
Right.
Sometimes the pot needs stirring.
Not to bring about doomed-forever-never-to-be-rebuilt Deconstruction…But to call to life Reconstruction…or New Construction…or Renovation…resulting in Revitalization.
Yes.
Sometimes the pot needs stirring.
You can’t build a new structure without first breaking ground.
You can’t plant a new seed without first disrupting the soil.
You can’t enjoy a three-cheese omelet without first cracking open the eggs.
And you can’t give birth to something new until the water breaks.
Sometimes the pot needs stirring.
The conversation needs to take place.
The hard decision needs to be made.
The words need to come forth, not to harm, but to help open the door to the new that awaits.
The spoon needs to enter the boiling water in order to give it a good stir so you can recline at the table together and dine on that Kraft blue-n-yellow box of perfection.
Beloved,
Jesus came to stir things up.
Not to harm, but to help things from sticking to the bottom.
To incorporate all the ingredients because those in the religious arena had lost sight of the fact that the very best meals offer a wide variety of delicacies.
He came and caused people to stop and to wonder, to pause/question/consider; to take a good hard look at their lives and ask themselves, “Is this REALLY the full and abundant life we want while we’re here on this earth?”
Today in my daily reading were these words, shouted at Pilate by the chief priests and crowd after he told them he found no basis for a charge against this guy Jesus, “He stirs up the people all OVER Judea with his teaching! He started in Galilee and has come all the way HERE!”
Yup. You better believe he did, and you wanna know why?
Because Jesus knew, that sometimes the pot needs stirring.
XO.
